How to deal with rust?

My 2001 is starting to show it's age. The bottom/inside lip of my rear wheel wells are beginning to rust out. The lip is starting to flake and it looks like there are 2 or 3 layers of metal that are separating. It has ever so slightly started to creep onto the exterior lip of the fender. I have a feeling that after one more New England winter, I'm going to be left with visible rust next year.

I don't have any tools or experience relating to body work, but how would this typically be taken care of by the body shop? Any rough ideas of cost?

Cut out that section and weld in a new piece then paint.

Was kind of afraid of that. $$$$

I'm wondering if there is anything they'd be able to do with Bondo since its such a small area.

BTW, thanks for suggestion on RetroFit Source for the ballasts. Real quick shipping and so far no issues whatsoever.

Don't bondo that section. It's a waste of time/money and the rust will continue to spread.

And TRS is great for that reason plus their product is great. Glad you're happy.

Try to scrape off the rust as much as you can. Try going to auto store and picking up some spray on solutions that dissolve the rust (like I got some stuff called brake-leen for the rust on my brakes) they say just spray it on and leave it and it dissolves the rust right off, so i'm sure there is a solution for the particular material you're trying to get the rust off of. But don't let it sit to long or else it will spread and get worse.
