2k2 SE 6-Speed I/H/E 250 HP / 244 ft-lbs

Went to a dyno day today in VA... Got 3 Runs with A/F

This is with Cattmans 3" Exhaust, and I actually put down better numbers then my car with the 2.5"

Run Files are here - http://boredmder.com/dyno/merlyn/

I can tell that the shelf has not been removed....BUT... a lot up top can be gained by the removal of the power valve .... but jeez gut that ***** and make more power.

EDIT

Can't read this late at night

I have thought about gutting the IM, just don't really have the right tools, and worried about pros vs cons

Nice numbers...not doubting just simply saying that those numbers seem awfully high without tuning or any more mods.....

Yea, a month or two before the dyno we had autotune from the emanage setup, and it was running perfect A/F but for whatever reason the cable that we made (No Emanage Option cables were available at the time for Widebands) stopped working and kept spiking A/F every 30 seconds or so, so we had to go in there untuned, with my turbo setup on the way, there is no way I am spending $300~ on an NA tune.

We tried to get autotune working the night before the dyno and with that a lot of stuttering at idle and bad A/F (The car was sitting at 14.5 then would spike to 18.5 A/F at times) we decided to turn EVERYTHING off on emanage. I am sorta glad we got to run the car without a tune, because we were able to see the effects of the 3" Cattman exhaust.

Elon laid down 247 w/o a tune and stock catback so the #'s aren't terribly out of reach.

Holy cow!!!! I didn't think people were laying that good of numbers w/o a tune...I'll be happy to get 245whp after I put on my Cattman Headers and SSIM with my other mods and get the car tuned!!!

For my POS? I think the dyno has limits on how low it can read It's basically stock right now, just a custom 2.5" catback, gutted cat (accidental) and hacked stock airbox (sound, of course). Probably has less power than stock, heh.

Yea, it was a nice surprise to us both...hitting close to (actually above, with the uncorrected numbers) the stock flywheel rating for his car at the wheels with nothing but I/H/E and flywheel. Eh, '04 trans counts too, I guess.

Still, we left the shop very happy with the numbers...

That's a really flat AF curve for the mods. Great numbers too.

Thanks for posting these results. Your performance mods seems to be working, the #s are exactly what I'd expect to see from a VQ35DE with this equipment. My 02 runs about 243whp w/ similar equipment. I've got a stock flywheel, so I lose a little there, and a gen3 header set, which does a bit better than a gen2 set. I've got a 2.5" exhaust, so your 3" catback could have made the difference.

The 3" gen5 Cattman catback is already developed, but there's never been enough interest to take it into manufacturing. I sort of assumed it would only make power on a turbo/sc application, but Merlyn's results seem to contradict that.

Anybody interested? We could have a batch ready in a month, but we'd need to see some expression of interest.

Here's a quick visual of what we gained over last time (as always, click for the full-res):

Horsepower

Torque

The blue run in both was the best run out of the old two (239/229), vs the 3 runs from this weekend.

I altered the scaling on both so as to not have dead space on the charts.

Peak differences seem to be ~20whp, ~24wtq, at a quick glance.

Both the new and the old runfiles can be found here.

LOL

C'mon go for the full 3" exhaust. I'd love to see before and after dyno on your car.

Hmm, not a bad idea, but considering all the noise reduction I've done (boat load of resonators) it might be worth it, these cars have a tendency to work (react well to certain mods) using items 'outside the box'.

Damn thats crazy!! I guess this contradicts what most will say that a 3" exhaust on a NA VQ will loose too much power and only gain it in the top end.

Hey Brian, any development for the cattman 3" for the 4th gen? Or maybe a 3" ID Muffler?

Well, the way I personally look at it, we have a single exhaust... in the 350z aftermarket world... you have true dual 2.5" exhausts, that are gaining power, so you simply have 2.5" per 3 cylinders... where as we have 2.5" per 6... so yea, I could easily see how it could be done... I would love to put 2.5" exhaust back on the car and then take it off and put 3" just to make sure 100% that this was 100% from the exhaust, but I personally can't think of anything else we have changed... had intake header and exhaust on the first dyno, along with emanage, same trans, same clutch, same flywheel, same tires... emanage was not tuned in any of the runs... so

I was kinda surprised that this hadn't been tried already, K20 guys have been putting 3" exhausts on their 4 bangers with great results. Hope it goes into production.

can you put a 3" exhaust on the car and still see the same horsepower gains with a stock muffler? or do you need an aftermarket muffler... cause i don't want all that noise, but i want the power
