02 6 Speed Dyno

I don't like the numbers but oh well. I don't have a cat-back yet... I'm still waiting for CM to make that 3".

Intake vs Intake and OBX v2 Headers tuned with VAFCII.

First Dyno

Intake only

You should have done a pull with open Y-pipe to see what gains you'd get from a 3", the numbers would be similar.

Seems right... you can do the SSIM for a little bit more gains block plate for some also, just small cheap mods for a few extra hp

I probably wouldn't recommend a SSIM. I ended up getting rid of mine and using a stock IM with vias delete to better effect at the track.

Are those numbers corrected for density altitude? Temperature, atmospheric pressure, etc.?

to each his own... ive got vids between both at the track, and the SSIM seem to be more effective...

This may be a stupid question, but why does the intake only dyno show 198 hp peak where as the base comparison dyno shows 193 hp peak? Was the 193 hp completely stock and the 198 was with an intake?

Otherwise, I would ignore the absolute values and appreciate the 30 hp gain (peak to peak). If you are concerned with the performance I would recommend a compression test, and if unusual, a leak down test.

Lastly, do you have fueling (AFR) data?

I wouldnt recommend SSIM either, its kinda of overrated unless you actually have an extended rev limiter and cams to go along with it. Otherwise yeah on the dyno you might have a higher peak HP with SSIM, but not overall gains. Removing the vias yields better overall gains (not peak), which is what you want.

Its like in a way comparing a SC to a properly sized turbo, a turbo maxima making 300whp will run circles around a SC max making peak 350whp

well see my sig on mods and this is the reason why i recommend the SSIM, not because i think but because i know.............. not only notice MPH increase but also ET...... sure the SSIM works even more for an extended rev and cams and blah blah blah... every car with a 3.5 in MD you ever see run, has a SSIM

also to add with the IM, the stock IM was tracked probebly 5 times (edit: and at two different tracks) and that was its best, the SSIM only had 2 runs before the PB and on the first run was a 13.9@99

Well there you go, I guess dyno results dont really mean much vs. track results when it comes to SSIM. I spoke based on previous dyno and threads showing comparo, but you got the slips so you win lol. Perhaps I'll put on the ssim i got lying around and compare track num's in my FI setup to see if it actually yields better track times despite what dyno says.

give it a shot man... wont hurt... if not even a ET increase i can gurantee you that you will see a noticeable MPH increase....

This is just what i came to understand... with the dyno it may not show much but on the track according to most the SSIM makes power at 5500 rpm to redline and suffer power loss low end.. and seeing as though when your at WOT your only in the lower RPM's a slit second off the line, after that the lowest you go is 4K rpm at shift so there isnt too much to lose

BOP is definitely the way to go if you arent going to get an SSIM (w/extended limiter) or go for a z33 intake manifold (need VTC tune)

That test is not terribly convincing since it didn't extend below the VIAS activation engine speed. Something something area under the curve, even if one can avoid engine speeds that low during a 'race'.

pretty good gain for small little mod... i have also bought the bigger maf housing and wideband to tune it right.
