wierd problem

for some reason starting about two weeks ago i could not access the forum. Ping and trace just fine but would give a connection reset by peer. Figured that it does it only using firefox and only on three of my computers and at A&M lab. IE works fine, any other computers i tested work fine with firefox. The only differencei see is the firefox i am using is localized version(not english). Wondering if there was update done to cause it on the server or something on my end.

Same thing happened to me last week. Forums were lightning fast that morning, then after noon, everything came to a standstill. Couldn't even access the front page or log in. about 24 hours later, finally got logged in, found this thread but couldn't post. Took 1-3 minutes to load a page...if at all. Finally got to email DanNY. No response, but the next day it was better. Day after there were no more problems. Overall, lasted about 4-5days. No changes to my PC before, during, or after this period of time.

DanNY is either my hero or just the guy getting the praise. Either way, Thanks!

sorry chris...i read your message over the weekend but didn't get a chance to reply. since you're having issues reading/posting wasn't sure how i can respond to you so you're not pulling your hair out.

i have to check with IB and see if they did anything. usually they let us know but i don't see any other problems.

let me know if it happens again.
thanks!

have you tried IE?
maybe even chrome?
are you on a shared line? tried a bandwidth speed test?
is it only the forums that you're having speed issues? isp blocking you or something?
any issues with other websites?

Definately let you know as best I can if it happens again.
Not sure about all the stuff you indicated in your last post about chrome and IE, but I can say that in my experience, it was ONLY the forums. Even my Netflix was working perfectly.

BTW: Just take the praise....YOU FIXED IT!

We haven't made any changes that I'm aware of. Is this problem still presenting itself?

Forum's been up to full speed for me since about Monday, 07/05/10. Absolutely no issues since.

Robb, is there any way to go back and see how many people were on the forums at specific time periods? I would understand increased page load times as the servers are accessed by additional members....so perhaps that is the key. Although, I had thought that issue was resolved years ago (Long ago, this happened relatively frequently due to the limitations at the time....I came in under "Jamie's" rule of the forums! LOL!)

I'm also curious if you have the ability to track a person's log-in? So, could you go back to when I was logged in between...say last Friday through Sunday and see what the page load times were? Or am I talking too Sci-fi?

Hey Chris,

Unfortunately, those ideas are beyond our capabilities. If you find the site slow again, there is an add on for firefox called firebug that will show the amount of time every single element of a webpage takes to load. If you were to install that, use it and post a screenshot of it's output, maybe we could narrow things down that way.

Cheers,
Robb

well, i got a work around for the problem i am having. This is actually hapenning with a lot of forums and i am guessing it is because they all got a similar update and running on the same code. I can change the user agent on my firefox to mimic internet explore and can access the forum from the firefox. It is possible that something was changed int he firefox user agent which websites did not acount for so it drops the connection

to be more specific i found that a lot of forums seem to not be able to communicate with firefox with particular default user agent string after certain update. After i change the language setting of the firefox in the default user agent i am able to view the forums.

Robb: Having some issues accessing the forums again. I've been off/on all day (by choice). As of logging in approximately 2:40pm, it has taken consistently 35 seconds to load each page. As of now....2:50pm, still an issue.

Update: at 6:25pm, checking forum from home. No issues at this time. Given you some times to determine if it was something with the servers. Of course, there were some storms which come through my area, so this may have been more a local factor.

hey Chris,

THanks for the note. we had some problems with one of our ad partners yesterday, they should be all cleared up by now though.

Let us know if this is not the case.

cheers,
robb
