The software that calculates the points is bogus.

I just saw a noobie that posted on the end of a thread - his first post that was a "me too" post - and he had 1807 points and was level 25.

The member right above that post had made 109 posts for 1239 points at level 19.

I read NismoMax80's link to how points are awarded. Not fully grasping what the screens were trying to say, nor finding answers to all my questions, I did see a BIGGGGG problem with the points awarded for being the last post in a thread. It gives big points for this on the assumption that the last poster is the all knowledgable subject matter guru that proved everyone else was wrong and provided to only correct answer.

What this point system was designed for - I don't know. Is it applicable to an automotive forum? I seriously doubt it.

I've noticed that as well. I've only been here on Maxima.org for a little over a year, but I've noticed that other people with much less activity and posts have much higher points and higher levels than me. I just enjoy interacting with people here. The points system doesn't really matter to me. Me and a couple of guys here in my town met on this forum, and formed our own local Maxima club. I actually came up with our name and created our Facebook page. To me, getting to actually get to interact with other Maxima owners in real life, not just here, is much more relevant than just racking up rank points.
