The Amsoil SDF-44, SuperTech ST3950 and STP S3950 filter do not work on VQ engines...

I bought two SDF-44s. The canister is too wide. It will NOT fit my VQ30DE. The lip of the oilpan mating surface is in the way (no way around it) which prevented me from threading the oil filter. I had to reuse the old SDF-13 because Nissan parts Dept already closed. I have pics of the SDF-13 and SDF-44 side-by side. I will upload it later.

DON'T BUY THE SDF-44

Eric, check your e-mail when you get the chance.....

In addition, Kirk (bags533) has reported the failure of the SuperTech ST3950 / STP S3950 filters to fit for similar issues with the bottom of the filter contacting the oil pan due to its width.

In addition, the STP S3985 oil filter will not fit due to a filter thread mis-match, but would not physically work either since its diameter is the same as the S3950.

How close to the belt or pulley was your filter.

Like bill said I had the S3950 and it was to big of a diameter exactly like yours.. It would not even go on the screw post straight.

Sorry I dont recall.

I remember having to push my oil pressure sender unit wire away for space (which I never did with the regular sized filter).

Stuck to the car.

I ran into this on a 63 Dodge. Dropped a bunch of oil before I figured it out.
