Warning about fitment issues of the Mobil 1 M1-105 oil filter on VQ30DE Maximas

This sort of coincides with this thread:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ighlight=M1105

Just further confirming that the M1-105 oil filter will not fit properly on VQ30DE Maximas, or at least my 99 Maxima. Luckily, I had an Amsoil SDF-20 just laying around.

However, member VQ35DE has gotten a Mobil 1 M1-105 to fit his VQ35:

....yet he stated (incorrectly) that it will fit VQ30DE Maxima:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ighlight=M1105

Obviously, the bottom oil pan design is different on a VQ35DE.

This may also explain why a STP S6941 filter will fit a VQ30DE Maxima but apparently has some rubbing issues with the wheel well splash guards on some VQ35DE Maximas.

So either use a M1-110 or a M1-104 Mobil 1 filter is you have a VQ30DE.

Thanks for the heads-up!

So Bill...are you recommending the Mobil over the STP for the VQ30 or is either more than acceptable in your opinion?

I don't know of any reason to prefer one over the other.

The Mobil 1 is better made overall.

I agree..but is it twice as well made...
That's where I think the STP has it beat..bang for the buck. I go 5k miles on the STP and never went more than 6 or 7K I think on the Mobil...

Wow, if Mobil 1 filters are $12 for the 3.5 VQ I think I'll be going with K&N. They are only $10.

Bill...do you know of any reason to go with Mobil 1 over a K&N as far as quality?

The only difference I'm aware of is the actual filter media, otherwise K&N == Mobil 1.
