Couple of ? about Mobil 1, and Slick 50

First let me say this is by far one of the best and informative forums on Maxima.org. Many thanks for all the information that has been put out there.

Last night at 85,000 miles I changed my oil to Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic, as well as the filter to a Bosch 3323. I searched and have heard that you should change your oil and filter after 1,000 miles when going to synthetic because the synthetic will clear out a lot of particles? What are your thoughts?

Also, last night I flushed my auto transmission fluid and put in B&M trick flow synthetic. I have a bottle of Slick 50 Auto Transmission treatment (recommended for auto's with over 75,000 miles) that is said to help keep transmission temps down and keep parts well lubed. Has anyone done any kind of analysis on this? It is very thick and was wondering if it would be good to add, I also have a Hayden transmission cooler. I am getting a SC and want to protect the transmission as much as possible.

Last question is about the oil. I usually keep 5W-30 in the engine for winter, and 10w-30 in the engine for summer. When I do go forced induction (3.33 pulley) do you think even though it is cooler out that I should go 10W-30, what about in the summer?

Thanks in advance

I don't think I would be pouring teflon solids in a auto trans.

Stay away from Slick 50 it is snake oil. Petrolon, the maker, forgets to tell the consumer that the metal in the engine must be heated to 1,000 degree F for teflon to adhere to engine or trans parts. Either would be cooked by 350 degrees F. Give it to your worst enemy.

As for forced induction, you should consider Redline synthetic oil which is an ester based Group V (highest rating) oil. Redline can take the heat. That is why racers use it.

Mobil 1 is a great oil for normally aspirated
engines, but I am not so sure about forced induction.

There was a guy with a supercharged Max about a year or so ago that cooked his engine using Mobil 1 5w-30.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I figured about the slick 50 and the weight of the mobil one. I will just move to 10w-30 when I boost. A friend of mine is running 15w-40 in his eclipse with turbo upgrade etc.

I'll do another flush with redline when I get the boost. Thanks again for the replies.

There is a modicum of truth to the idea that synthetic oils clean an engine better than dino. But changing after just 1,000 miles is overkill and a waste of $$$. To get a good flush, you can probably go 3 - 6,000 miles easy the first time before changing ...depending on your patience of course.
