M1-105 Equivalents (STP, Bosch)

I see that the oversized filter recommended for the 02-03 Max is the M1 M1-105. Is there any reason I cannot use the following equivalents STP S3950 and/or Bosch 3320 instead of the M1. Thanks.

Pedro,

I would go to an Autozone since they carry all of the above mentioned Champion Ind. made filters. Do a comparison in the store and make sure the diameter and length of the filters are the same. If so, I would use the Bosch since I consider it to be the best bang for the $$.

I asked my self the same question when I was in Autozone the other night regarding the STP 6941 oversized filter for the VQ30DE. I forgot the Bosch equivalent filter # but it was identical in diameter and length.

For the record, I use the Bosch 3323 versus the Mobil 1 M1-110 for the cost difference. I go 8-9 months on Amsoil ASL 5w-30 with a filter change in the middle at a maximum of 4 months/5,000 miles.

The Bosch used to be $5.49 and is now $5.99 but the STP filters are cheaper now. As Bill mentioned in an earlier post, the STP 6941 has gone down in price from $6.99 to $3.99 at Autozone.

Just my 2 cents.

I looked at the filters at Autozone. I cross referenced them using their catalog and then did a side-by-side out of the box final comparison with the M1-105 and they were an exact match. I currently use a Bosch 3323 and want to go to the oversized 3320 on my next oil change. Just got to check for any rubbing issues since I have 225/50-17 on 7.5 inch rims.

Good job with your homework at Autozone. Let us know how the oversized filter works when you put it on the car. Its is tough to beat the Bosch for quality and competetive price.

My homework assignment is to find the Baldwin equivalent of the oversized Amsoil SDF 20 (Baldwin manufactures the SDF filter for Amsoil). The Baldwin is a $5-6 filter versus $10 plus for the Amsoil.

I purchased and installed the Bosch 3320 oversize equivalent of the M1-105. Fits just fine on my 02 Max and I have no clearance or rubbing issues with my 225/50-17's on 7.5 inch rims.

The 3320 and 3950 should work on VQ35s, but lack widespread use thus, no explicit recommendation.

FYI, on my 03 GLE with no other mods,

The Mobil 1 M105 oil filter will rub a bit on a hard left turn (like during a U or while parking) with 225/55/17 tires. Haven't tried the M110. The M108 does not rub.

If the 105 is rubbing, the 110 will as well. They are about equal length.

This is the first I've heard of any rubbing issues with the Mobil oil filters on VQ35s......

I put on oversized Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires at 225/55/17 on the dealer's chrome wheels. Slightly taller. I had wondered if the rub was due to the length or the fatter diameter of the 105, now I know, thanks to your post.

Will stick to the tiny 108 size and just change it every 3k miles.

Have I got this right? The M1-105 is the oversized version of the M1-110 and the Bosch 3320 is the oversized version of the 3323? Thread opening and bypass settings are the same, right?

M1-105 = oversized M1-104

M1-110 = oversized M1-108

3320 = oversized 3323 (I believe this is accurate)

Okay, thanks. Do you know the psi bypass settings for the 9E000 Nissan?

14 psi. The M1-110 and 108 have 14 psi bypass settings.

The 105 has a 20psi bypass, so does the 104. Honda filters typically have 20psi bypass ratings.

02 Max GLE

I used the M1-105 today. I did not see any interference with moving parts. Even the splash shield that you have to remove to get to the filter did not come in contact with the filter. The is the second time I have used an M1 filters. I am very satified with the performance of this product.

O2TNMax made me think ... I hadn't looked under the car to see if I was rubbing against the M-105 (and it's covered in slush right now, and the garage floor is wet and cold and it will be several days before I look, thank you very much) but the M-105 doesn't touch the gravel shield, so how the heck could it possibly rub against the tires? Suspension work and aftermarket wheels?

I think the offset is smaller in the gle rims ( closer to the panal. plus he added 225-55 tires . wider and stick out more. but people with lower and 20 rims don't have this problem.

Well, I just got on the floor of my filthy garage (the things I'll do for the org) and looked, and there's at LEAST an inch of clearance between the M 105 and the gravel shield. I cannot imagine how anyone could have a clearance problem.
