What about the engine block drain plug?

Everyone is always talking about flushing the cooling system by draining the rad, filling it with distilled water, running car with heat on, cooling, draining, and repeating.

My question is, what if, like my Chilton's manual says, you removed the engine block drain plug to drain all the coolant from the block. Would you then still need to flush the system, or would all of the coolant be out?

to me, thats not worth F-ing around with...first of all there too hard to get to, Y-pipe will need to come off, and second there really isnt alot of coolant in there any way..

Drain the radiator, get a garden hose and trickle the water out of the hose, Plug the radiator back up and run the car till all of the water coming out of the car is Non-Green

Matt is right. Only Houdini could reach one of those engine plugs. Don't frustrate yourself trying. Just drain and refill, drain and refill, drain and....be happy.

If you can actually undo the drain plugs on a 5th gen (not sure how the other ones are), you're a better man than I. If you can then actually reinstall the drain plugs afterwards, you're a god.

I agree with all. Forget the drain plug.

isn't there 2 that he would need to get to? one on the front and one of the back side of the engine block? doing the flush would be wayyy easier.
