what would I use and is there a write-up anywhere on how to do it?

Craig Brace has a writeup for EGR cleaning on a 3rd gen. Check his website (in the 3rd gen stickies somewhere) for a jumping-off point. I am guessing the 4th gen is VERY similar, maybe 1 additional sensor to disconnect.
