Fumoto Valve

Hey guys,

If this is a repost or sticky, please let me know (and if you could be so kind as to direct me to the threads. I searched through 6-8 pages but found nothing.), thanks. I posted this in the general 5th gen forum a while back but only a couple people really had experience with it....

I was wondering if anyone with any Max has any opinions on the Fumoto valves, which are engine oil drain valves to replace the drain plug. Apparently these make oil changes much easier.

Check out http://www.fumotovalve.com/.

Any feedback ya'll can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've used them on my Maxima for a year. In the beginning everything was fine, but after about the third oil change the oil would flow very slowly from the vavle. Since I'm usually busy I didn't investigate it, and assumed it was normal. After the third oil change with this slow flow drain I deceided to remove it. When I did a lot of brown sludge came flying from the drain hole. It was like a clog was removed from a drain. I checked the vavle to see if it was clogged or sticking but it was working perfectly. Anyway I put the original drain plug back and now my oil drains completely without any brown sludge, and the oil stays honey colored longer, almost right up to the drain interval.

I'm not knocking the fumoto vavle, but I now don't trust it and will not be using them any more.

Hmmm... so you're implying that for some reason, the constriction of oil flow due to the valve caused some sort of clogging/build-up of stuff (sorry I'm not very technically savvy here).... I have a buddy who has it on his WRX and swears by it... I guess I just wanted to see if anyone with a Max had anything to say, so thanks for the feedback..... I still haven't gotten around to ordering it, I'm not sure if it'll make that much of a difference....
