Just started Auto-Rx....

I will post before and after results since there aren't many Maximas that have made use of this product. Hopefully I will see the results that so many on BITOG have seen.

Well, just finished the cleaning phase (1500 miles after treatment) and now will go into the rinse phase (full oil change using dino oil) which will last 2-3000 miles. Then I can finally switch over to Mobil 1 5w-30.

As far as I know you can only buy it online at their website:
www.auto-rx.com

But, there is some link in there that allows you to get a few bucks off if you tell them that you heard about it on maxima.org

Well, just completed the first oil change following the introduction of Auto-Rx into my engine and all I can say is, dang, my oil was dirty -- considerably dirtier than my previous oil change 1500 miles ago.

Now on to the rinse phase.......looking good so far.

I simple way that I've found (by accident actually) to "see" how good RX works is to keep a small sample of the oil you drain from the RX cleaning phase in a glass jar, and then compare it to another sample of oil taken from a later oil change. After a week or so sitting around, an amazing amount of sediment settles to the bottom of the jar. It's interesting to compare the two, and a lot easier to notice differences than cutting open an oil filter...which has never shown me much of anything after an RX treatment. For what its worth...

With my big 5.8L V8 Ford van, yes. It was more responsive and got better gas mileage for about 15-20,000 miles. Then all that tapered off. On my little 2.4L 4cyl Altima, no. Couldn't tell a bit of difference.

Thought I would let everyone know that I completed the Auto-Rx treatment last week when I drained the dino and filled with Mobil 1 5w-30. I wanted to let the old oil sit in a container for about a week to let all the sludge and crud settle to the bottom of the jug so I could see just how much was cleaned out. Well, I will take pictures in the morning, but there is definitely quite a bit of deposit that has settled to the bottom. I went ahead and sent a sample of this oil that was just drained to Blackstone Labs to get a UOA done on it just to see what kind of interesting results I might get. I will post those results when I get them in a couple weeks.

I hope you stirred it back up before you captured the sample. . .

The sample was taken as the oil was draining out of the oil pan, so no worries.

I heard the results of Auto-RX are temporary. Well we'll see in the future. When will you get the results?

Auto-Rx is an effective, ester-based slow/non-harsh engine cleaner. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not a magic potion. If the user fails to maintain his car properly after the cleaning, it will get dirty again. And regardless of what you do, eventually, slowly but surely, almost every engine will accumulate some deposits. Auto-Rx is no more permanent (vs. temporary) than vacuuming your carpets is. But a clean engine, diligently cared for, will stay cleaner a lot longer your carpet will. What specifically did you hear, and where?

I finished my cleaning phase, in the rinse phase right now. And I noticed that my engine is quieter and no more ticking sound from the engine.

I have completed the clean phase and am about 275 miles into the rinse phase. My fuel economy seems to have picked up a tad but I also recently used a bottle of Chevron Techron for the first time. The engine idles so smoothly that I can't hear it and I do have a Budget y-pipe. I recently went through emissions testing. Two of the three readings were lower than 2 years ago, when I last went through. The NOx was higher than I like it, but that may be attributable to the Budget y-pipe and the fact the OEM platinum plugs have 60K on them.

I will be switching to Esso XD3 Extra, 0w30, PAO full synthetic following the AutoRX rinse phase.

I am in the rinse phase of Auto RX in both vehicles. I have yet to see any improvement in the I30. But that had less than 30K miles on it at purchase. I wanted to start with a clean slate before switching to Red Line.
The other engine is an Isuzu 3.5L OHC V6. This one has 104K miles and has used Red Line oil most of the time. I have a noticeable increase in fuel economy after Auto RX.

My gas mileage went way up after i did just one stage at 142,000 miles. I had noticed the previous owner may not have taken the best care of it, since i could see bits of slugdy debris at the end of my oil level stick everytime i checked the level. ARX has seemed to have cleaned it out pretty well.

Given you have 142K on the engine, you should run a 2nd AutoRX cycle.

Use any dino oil that you want. I am about 550 miles into my rinse phase and the engine is running so quietly now that I can't hear it.

Be patient. Run it for 1,500 miles on the clean phase. Change the oil and filter (use dino) and run it for 2,000 miles and change the oil and filter again. Don't take any short cuts and I think you will be pleased with the results.

Good choice, although I went with a bargain basement 21-point special and am using Pennzoil 5w30, for the first time, out of a bottle not bulk. I usually use Castrol GTX 5w30.

The rinse phase follows the clean phase. Follow the instructions precisely.
