Is it ok to switch to synthetic? any benefits?

I've got roughly 44k miles on my 02 SE 6-speed. Is it a good time to switch to synthetic oil? Can I buy synthetic transmission oil at autozone? or do I have to buy it online? I'd like to switch my engine oil to synthetic, and then the transmission oil later on.

Is there any performance benefit from going to synthetic?

0 performance gains but better friction protection. Best price I've found for Mobil 1 is wal-mart in a 5q jug. No idea about tranny fluid.

Less Friction means more power, technically . Will you feel the extra power? That would be a big no. And yes the engine is protected better but doesn't run cooler. Amsoil 5w-30 for the Maxima is the way to go!

Mobil1 5w30 at walmart is the easiest.

Tranny fluid however must be bought online. Again GL-4. Redline MT90 or Amsoil is your best bet. Check the Manual fluid change on the difference. I bought some amsoil series 2000 75w90 from talkinghorse on the org for pretty cheap. I will probably do it again pretty soon.
