Automatic Trans Fluid Capacity?

Can anyone give me a ballpark as to how much fluid my 96 SE automatic transmission holds. Both the owner's manual and the Haynes manual states that the best way to determine quantity is see how much is removed.

I just need a ballpark so I know how many quarts to buy.

It's 10 quarts, but you will probably need about 12 if doing a flush.

About 4 - 5 quarts for a drain and fill.

my mechanic did my flush (dropped pan etc...) and he only put 5 qts, but he checked the level and showed it to me and it seems fine, is this a good or bad thing...oh my tranny still slips from time to time, when its cold and if i have a full car. Another thing is maybe because i waited 113k miles to do my flush. (i live in los angeles so lots of stop and go driving)

Are you sure he flushed it? If he only put 5 qts in, that means he just drained the pan and cleaned it out. It should've taken 10 qts for a flush.
