how much brake fluid do i need to bleed the brakes?

I have a 98 maxima and want to bleed the brakes & change to Castrol LMA Dot 3/4 fluid simultaneously. This is the first time I am doing this and need to know how many quarts of Castrol LMA should I expect to need in order to replace the old brake fluid by bleeding the brakes? Also, what interval do you guys recommend bleeding the brake fluid, as the manual does not indicate how often it should be done. Thanks!

I just had this done about 3 weeks ago for the first time because I thought it was the thing to do. I still have the original brake pads as my car is low mileage (57,700) and is mostly highway driven. I couldn't see any mention of the volume required in Haynes.
I would buy say 2 quarts. If you have 1 left you could take it back if need be.

I am also considering bleeding my clutch fluid and replacing it for the 1st time as the rad and power steering have been flushed in the past year and I had the transaxle gear oil replaced about 6 weeks ago for the first time as well.

I suspect that brake fluid doesn't have to be replaced until the pads are actually replaced. A typical driver puts on a lot more miles than I do annually. I just had my brakes flushed because the way I am going the brake fluid would have been in there another 4 to 6 years until I have to replace pads. I don't use my brakes much and suspect the first set of pads won't be replaced until 80 to 85 K and for some reason my rears are wearing faster - 40% to the wear bar and 50% left on the fronts.

I digress!

1 qt was MORE than enough for my 3rd gen, I had bought 2 qts and it was overkill. Since I ordered it online, I couldn't return the 2nd qt.

Cool, maybe I'll buy an xtra quart from Pep Boys just in case, and return it if i don't need it. I hope the procedure is not too complicated or anything, this is my first time attempting it. Thanks!
