NissanMaticJ is a special ATF (FM though) with no OTC substitutes for the fluid (could be one of those high quality synthetic fluids with additional friction modifiers). I bet this stuff is more expensive compared to MaticD (which you can formulate with OTC DexronIII using some friction modifiers).

If the manual says MaticJ then you are stuck -- you need to pay the big bucks and get it from Nissan. BTW, if you are past warrantly, who cares use Chevron ATF + Lubegard black FM becoz the Maxima and Infiniti cars look alike for the most part -- doubt the tranny's are any different, except that I30's shift very well. Check up the transmission model and make and take it from there....

-- Checked the web and there seems to be some alternative to this goofy ATF. Castrol doesn't sell this in the US (atlest there is no mention of such a fluid in its website).

"Currently available exact equivalents to NISSAN Genuine ATF Matic Fluid J are Castrol Transmax J or IDEMITSU ATF HP."

nissan will state on the trans oil dip stick if the tranny takes anything other than maticD/dextronIII.
