Well my brake light was coming on and i am low on brake fluid so i picked up some prestone dot 3 brake fluid and when i opened it up i noticed it was a light color. the stuff that is in there right now looks really dark. i then noticed on the bottle it says synthetic dot 3 brake fluid. i'm guessing that the stuff in there right now is just regular and i shouldnt mix the two together. anyways, what brake fluid should i use i have a 97 maxima.

No. The stuff in there has probably been in there since the "big bang" and is severly contaminated. You should consider not only adding fluid but flushing the system entirely.

You should really find out why you have fluid leaking out also. Brakes are important

i don't think i have any fluid leaking. i just think that brake fluid has been in there for a long time like you said and it is starting to get low.

This fluid doesn't just disappear. But if the brake pads are very worn, that will lower the fluid level until you put new pads in and put the fluid back up. But again, if it's dark, flush, not just add
