In other words.. how long did you go before finally filling up?

Today... I filled up 16.659 gallons... was very scary.. thought car would stall any second lol

Now I have a SES light.. might be related.. going to pull the code this weekend.

Manual says it goes on if less then 3 gal fuel are present. Maybe it will go away tommorow... no side effects though...

I ran out of gas once and could only pump in the equivalent of 17.77 US gallons and that was right to the brim. I doubt you can put any more in a 4th Gen.

My 6th-Gen 04 SE has a tank with a 20 gallon capacity. I keep good records of all gasoline purchases. Here are all over 17 gallons since May, 2003:

11-9-03 = 17.698 G

I expected to find 3 or 4, but that was the only one. I have 6 fills at between 15.1 and 16.9 gallons. I generally buy gas when the gauge is between 1/3 and 1/4 tank remaining.

it's probably best not to take the tank too low in the winter time, particularly in your climate.

Or in the summer, as the pump is cooled by the gas, and more gas keeps it cooler.

Car stalled completely, even started it twice after with it stalling within a few seconds. The tank was almost completely sucked dry and didnt have enough to get the engine started. Luckily neutraled it to a gas station and filled it up. Meter read 17.96 gallons, i think its almost impossible if not stupid to go more than that.

On Thursday (1-05-06), I filled up in eastern Iowa to get cheaper gasoline prices (vs Illinois) on my trip home. The upper side of needle on the gas gauge was just at the lower edge of the empty bar.
The car took 18.032 gallons.

When I get the calculations done, I will be posting a new thread (Fluids & Lubes) on my mileage experience on my recent round trip (2,150 miles) where I used the cheapest gasoline on the way out and 91 octane premium on the trip home.

How about Gas Additives?

Do any of you guys use fuel injection cleaners or anything like that? I recently bought my Max and it had 87K miles on it. And I am usually more concerned with maintaining it than hooking it up. So is it right to use those things? Or do they do more harm than good?

Fuel Injector Cleaners

There are a number of posts and threads on this topic here in Fluids & Lubes. Bottom line for me. I change my Mobil 1 motor oil every 7,500 miles (maximum mileage Nissan will allow and keep the power train warranty working). About 500 miles before the oil change I put a bottle of Chevron's Techron in the gas tank when filling up.

The better cleaners are reported in some circles to slightly increase the viscosity of your motor oil, so to be safe I use them just before an oil change.

The old Gumout worked well in carburators, but are a waste and may even be harmful for fuel injection cars. You will need to use more sophisticated cleaners like Techron for fuel injectors.

You were close to "sucking air."

You got 24.6 mpg, which is consistent with what I got on my winter trip to Chicago a few weeks ago at similar mph average.

18.05 Gallons, the car was "stumbling" (running out of gas) going uphill just as I got off of RT24 in Florham Park, NJ. I was halfway home and had not been in the area in 6 years (before they completed RT24) and hoped that the gas stations that I knew of were still there; they weren't, but hidden by the Interstate bridge was a Mobil Station. I had to fill up to see how close I had come to disaster, LOL. Never Again!
