Okay...I have a 1997 GXE with 164,xxx kmi on it...I'm in the process of bringing the engine and such up to speed because the previous owner - my older brother - didn't maintain it. This is what I plan to do:

• Replace coolant with Toyota OEM Anti-Freeze (red) - 10 qts
• Use Amsoil or Mobil 1 ATF for Transmission - 10 qts
• Use Amsoil or Mobil 1 ATF for Power Steering - 4-5 qts
• Change to Mobil 1 SyperSyn 5w/30 - 4.5 qts
• Change to Nissan OEM 15208-9E000 Oil Filter
  
• Clean out tranny pan and purchase:
  
  • New gasket
  • New drain plug
  • New "Screen" (filter)
  • New Pan Bolts (21)

From what my next project is...will this bring my engine back up to speed? Can or should I do better? Do I need to purchase more than the amounts I have listed? Let me know if I should change anything. Thanks.

 

If he didnt maintain it you can also try seafoam or Auto-Rx before your next oil change. I personally havent tried either but a lot of people swear by them

Edit: You can also check your air filter.

 

Sorry...I forgot to mention that I did use Gumout Regane about 3 weeks ago...changed my air filter, cleaned the TB and IACV, and changed a few sensors in the engine.

 

Also, I went into Walmart and Advanced Auto Parts...they both carry the 5w/30 oil but neither of the ATF's. What kinds of stores carry them?
