brake fluid flush

Does Nissan (or anyone) have suggestions on when to do a brake fluid flush? I recently changed my pads and only bleed the lines. The fluid was a translucent light brown color, seemingly darker at the caliper than in the reservoir (but I'd have to check for certain). I have 55k miles.

I've read some other BBs such as the BMW.org and they suggest replacing once a year. I'm not a big fan of using up natural resources unnnecessarily (I change my oil every 5K). Thanks in advance.

According to an article in advance auto parts, http://www.advanceautoparts.com/engl...20011001bb.asp you should change it every 24k miles or two years. But if the brake fluid color seems dark, you should change it. Fluid should look clear like water and if it's turned light brown, just change it.

Anyone know how much brake fluid is needed for a flush for an 02? I vaguely recall getting 4 bottles when I got my SS lines and having a little over 1 bottle left. Does 3 bottles sound about right? Thanks.

Replace it every 2 years, because it picks up moisture that ruins internal components.

I attempt many repair issues but I am NOT a mechanic and would like to change my brake fluid as well, but seems quite risky and dangerous if air gets in there. What are your all perspectives on keeping air out and doing it right for a newbie for brakes? Is it really worth it to DIY or is it made out to be a "risky" thing since some don't wanna follow directions and it keeps brake shops in business? Your thoughts..I wanna do it but never done brakes at all before - except I lubed my caliper pins.

I am planning to do this at the dealer in the next few weeks, its not that expensice, less then $100 canadian to replace all the brake fluid, and have the piece of mind that it was done correctly

i am mechanically inclined and have done maintenance work on the engine myself, but i leave fluids like coolant, tranny, and brake to the shop or the dealer
