Acetone as a fuel additive to increase MPG???

Has anyone heard of this? An old wives tale? I heard this from a former Maxima owner. I'm only afraid it may eat away at gaskets and rubber parts..but who knows. Have any of you tried this?

I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. It will eat away parts of your fuel system and I believe if you spill it on the exterior, it will eat the paint.

I could stand corrected on this, but I remember reading these points somewhere.

There have been numerous threads on acetone in the past 2 years.

I just read this on another car forum that I go to, had a link to another website that a guy sweared by. Several people tried it and some said 2mpg gain while others said nothing. He added 3oz per 10 gallons. Not sure of the price of the acetone but the consensus was that it wasnt worth it.

Not acetone!!!!!! If you want to blow your octane ....go ahead. The only thing I would add to your fuel is about 12 oz. of tranny fluid if you feel you need to clean your system but you will only get a better mix out of the injector. This is the poor man's fuel injector cleaner!!

^^ thats nuts, you will kill your fuel pump and do other damage most likely

Tranny fluid does not combust, how do you expect to drive on it ?

These myths of putting tranny fluid into the crank case are no longer true because tranny fluids of today have much ,uch less detergents in them, but into the fuel tank ? that sounds absurd!
