Servicing CVT Trans

Servicing CVT Trans
I bought My Maxima back In august with 48K miles on it. I am approaching 54K and was just curious whats the fluid change increments on the CVT trans and what would be the appropriate fluid to run in it? Sorry I'm new to Maximas. Any advice would be much obliged. Btw its a 2007 Se with CVT trans.

Change it every 30k or at least have it checked out at the dealership and see if it needs changing. They can test the condition of the fluid. Check your manual.

Wrong advice from a guy who has 17K posts? CVTs are good and becoming more and more popular. Reliability is another story but if you replace fluids one could easily extend it to what miles one gets from geared tranny.

- This is NOT the wrong forum for this fluid question.
- Check your manual -- best advice is there for this special trannie that needs special fluid to handle the friction & heat.
- Because the CVT is so sensitive, I would only use approved Nissan fluid.
- It is certainly true that the CVT is not the trannie for everyone. I will not buy one as long as I have the strength and ability to push a clutch and make the gearing decision for myself -- based on the road conditions ahead and what I personally know about the proper gear for each situation.
- For long stretches of interstate highway, the top gear is the appropriate one.
- But there are times when we are not on the interstate and need other gears -- and I want to be the one making this decision, not some computer that does not have eyes or a brain.
- Don't bother to complain here that the CVT does not have gears -- I know that. But the effect of the changing ratios in this trannie has a similar effect to gear selection and it is easier to use the term "gear" rather than ratios.
- Because I will only buy a manual trannie car, looks like Maximas are no longer in my future when the time comes to buy a new car (sorry bout that because I love my current Max with 105K miles on her).

CVT fluid is very expensive, $20.00 a qt. Only use nissan ns2. Personally, I wouldnt change the fluid until 100kish, even then it technically doesnt "need" it. Nissan CVT's are covered by the factory till 120k. The owners manual says to inspect the fluid every 30k, only change it that soon if have been very rough on the car, racing, towing, etc.

That does suck, the new 7th gen max's are an awesome, sexy car! To bad they only come eqipped with a slush box!

changing CVT at 30k is premium serivice according to my manual, changing it at 60k is regular service, LOL. I am at 50K on my 08 so will have to change it soon.
The CVT is not for everyone, however i like mine. I dont race or drive hard (a lot) so i am happy with it. I guess I am more of a cruiser and love my grocery getter haha

Anybody know if any tuning can be done to the Maxima CVT for those of us who would gladly give up some MPG for it to not feel so sluggish and well, like a CVT. I'm thinking in terms of the PCM tunes that can be done to many other autos for performance and various other parameters.
Thanks!
Thanks!

CVTs are actually great; you just have to stomp it down to let it know you want power. Maxima autos are the same way (MPG in mind) - giant love affair for the 3rd and overdrive gears, you have to stomp it down to downshift.
But once you do floor it, the CVT brings your RPM to your max power output and stays there, filling out the rest of the acceleration by adjusting the gear ratio, which is something to be envied by even manual guys (like me).
