I have Infiniti I30 97.. Didn’t change transmission fluid never. Both car at 140K and now it is at 195K. Reading at internet I understand that I should not mess with metal screen. So I plan to open drain bolt and replace 4 1/2 quarters that will go out. Next year do probably same. As I read so far it must be Dextron III. Can not go with V or VI? Do not like Nissan brand (expensive).

Amsoil ATF is amazing stuff. I use Castrol Import ATF and Valvoline Maxlife ATF on my I30 and it is nowhere near the same in terms of shift smoothness.

Also if there are no indications that your AT is failing, definitely drop the pan and clean the magnets and filter.

 

I plan on going with Amsoil soon. Great stuff I hear!

 

how does the tranny fluid look like as far as color and texture (and smell)...if its as black as the ace of spades id be kinda nervous changin it at this point

 

I had that situation with the I30 I bought at 225000 miles. I just drained out 4.5 quarts and replaced it with Castro multi-import vehicle trans max and waited 500 miles before repeating the process. Eventually it cleared up and started shifting better. I thought it was toast when I started though.

I understand should go with amsoil. But what kind? I guess Dextron III or something that write "for cars that recommend dextron III". Someone ask about my transmission. It is good right now. Would check that thread.

Amsoil has a run down of fluids for every car. Just go to their website and look up what they recommend.

As you stated, the 4th Generation cars take a fluid that meets Nissan Matic-D (or Dextron-III). AMSOIL ATF (Product code ATF/OTF) is specifically labeled as meeting these specs as well as Matic-J and Matic-K.

AMSOIL's fuel efficient formulation (Product code ATL/OTL) is a lower viscosity formula for newer cars and it meets Matic-S specifications. I also have CVT fluid (CVT).

I've personally used AMSOIL ATF in every vehicle I have owned since the 1980's, I've installed it in a countless number of my customer's vehicles and I have sold tons of it to members of this site. The feedback has been outstanding...smooth shifting, outstanding performance in temperature extremes and long transmission life. I've yet to have one customer go with AMSOIL and then later switch to something else.

AMSOIL recently concluded a field study where AMSOIL transmission fluid (and Signature Series motor oil) were tested in a Las Vegas taxi fleet. Excessive time idling combined with stop-and-go driving loaded with passengers and cargo characterized typical driving conditions. During summer months, ambient temperatures often exceeded 100ºF, further increasing severity. Following 12,891 hours (183,705 miles) on a single fill of AMSOIL the 4-speed automatic transmission from a 2010 Dodge Charger was removed from service for analysis.…this is 9-times longer than what the fleet was previously doing and 3-times longer than Chrysler’s recommended service interval. While the results of this test are impressive, what I find even more impressive is the lab analysis of the used AMSOIL transmission fluid which showed it was still within specs for new transmission fluid!
