heli-coils...flywheel bolts.

The heads of two flywheel bolts (the bolt that holds the flywheel to the crankshaft) broke off when I intalled my lightened flywheel. Now I need to take the tranny off again and I want to fix those bolts. I will need to drill them out, re-tap and insert the heli-coils with threadlocker if I understand dorrectly.

My question is, where can I get a good heli-coil kit? Should I buy an entire set or just the size I need? I dont have too much money to spend. Also if anyone knows the thread pitch of the flywheel bolts that will help but I can figure that out on my own if i have to.

...or should I tap it to the next size larger?

Thanks

in for results.

One of my flywheel bolts are cross threaded, and will need at least re-tapping.

how do you know that the threads are garbage? I got my helicoils at local store and only got the size i needed, it was like 30$ if i remember correctly. I came with the helicoils, the tool to turn them in and a tap.

the threads arent necessarily garbage but they will be when I have to re-drill them. I have a full 80 piece tap & die set so should i tap it to the next size larger or heli-coil it?

I would try an easy out/screw extractor before I even thought of tapping them. The threads are probably fine and it shouldn't be a problem to get the broken bolt out with an easy out. How did the heads snap?

ya I never thought of that since Ive never used easy-outs before. I ordered a set so I will try that.

By the way they broke using an air impact gun trying to get them out. I learned that they should be taken out by hand.

Why not put in a drill bit smaller than the bolt run it in a good amount in the middle, then put the drill in reverse. Works for me all the time.

That's what a screw extractor/easy out does.

Ya I got my easy outs that I ordered, havent used them tho. It will be probably 2 more weeks due to vacation and work schedule that I will now have time to take my tranny off.
