This is were you want to call a friend....building a make shift will work but sounds like more work and cost. But in the end i'm sure if you find a way to do it yourself, you'l take much more pleaser and pride in your ride.

Building a paint booth with pvc + drop cloth is your best bet. Though I'd have to admit I've seen people paint with pretty good results in their driveways. Just make sure it's a nice day without wind!

thats what i have done when it comes to painting other peoples cars. painted this one in his driveway.
the wind is your enemy when it comes to painting outside. just make sure the conditions are right and buy a decent gun too!

Definitely use a friends garage - painting it in the open air is a bad idea. Creating a makeshift booth outside is difficult. And it will turn out like crap unless you have a way to keep the dust and bugs out of the clear......

thanks a lot for the ideas guy, but to my luck my friend found a garage for me so im good with that. but the 2nd question i have is, whats the fastest and easiest way to sand down the car to the primer. becuase i was wet sanding it for an hour and only covered about a dinner plate size on my car, and also both my arms are really tired. at this rate it will take me until new years just to sand the car down

Why do you need to sand down to the primer?
The best thing to paint over is well-adhered old paint. wet-sand with 400 grit and paint.
If you have scratches and stuff you need to remove, fill them with body glaze and sand over them.
If the paint is peeling or in poor condition, then of course you gotta get it off. They sell stripper in aerosol cans that you can just spray on the car and it will wipe the paint off with a rag. Do that, then start over fresh. but that's a last resort.

Where are you located? That would help us to recommend a shop for ya
Do you have any pics on how it turned out?
What kind of setup were you using? (Paint/Spray Gun/Compressor)
What went wrong? Ect...

i live in brooklyn, i used paint lol. 1st thing is i sanded it down too much so there are these uneven spots in the body that u can see even after being painted. second i ran out of paint before i could finish so its not even fully painted red lol. and the paint quality was crap so if u even run ur finger nail thru it, the paint is gonna come off. so im gonna take it to maaco tomorrow spend like 500 or so, so they just paint the car and sell the car in the summer before that paint begins to chip off. pretty much i screwed up my perfectly fine car =((

hey guys i took the car to maaco had them do it for me, cost me 566.10 for a great looking red, they also fixed my **** up for free, for now the paint job looks great, idk wats gonna happen after the winter time but for now im very satisfied with the work they did

If you can find a friend that have a home garage, for 125$ you can buy some plastic sheet and make a paint chamber, then you just need to buy 2 squirrel cage, one to bring fresh air in and one exhaust. You can use some flexible 8" tubing, the same they use for a home heat exchanger/ventilation system. This is what I did when I painted the engine bay on my car last winter. I had no doubt it would work but it actually work much better than I though, there was simply no grain on the paint really, but the success while depend on the ventilation. You also have to wear a full face breathing mask, I got mine for 173$ and got some extra NIOSH cartridge with it. This coming winter we will paint the entire car so I will likely post the pics when it's time.
If you have any specific question dont hesitate to ask I'd be more than happy to help.

You definitly get what you pay for from maaco, but nothing else. My dad was a manager at maaco for about 4 years before quiting, and after seeing how they paint cars and their procedures in prepping cars, I would never take my car to them. I'm assuming you got the ambassador paint job which is their cheapest option, those look nice and all for about a year, then after that it's all downhill. They don't use a base coat/clear coat application, it's just one simple mixture that includes both and they just spray a couple coats on and they're done.

theres a reason why u paid like 550 for that paint job, dont expect that crap job to last at all......been around paint and body for all my life.....my dad even worked at macco before and he can tell ya that there quality of work sucks....next time find a painter at a body shop and ask for tips....
