I scratched the F outta my windshield
Today I took off my vinyl windshield banner that was on there for almost 2 years. It was all cracked and faded and started to look tired. I used a razor blade to get it off. Because I couldnt just peel it off in large chunks, I had to use a pair of vice grips to hold the blade in place. I lubed the windshield with some WD40 as well as to dissolve the adhesive and hopefully prevent scratches. After I stripped it off, I used palmolive dishwashing soap to clean the window to loose the grease. Afterwards much to my dismay, it looks like I scratched up the windshield. Its not too noticeable, but in certain light against certain backgrounds you can see it. The scratches are very superficial it seems, nothin deep. You can see them from inside looking out, but almost not at all on the outside. I can try to take a pic, but I dont think they'll come out as details on glass are very hard to photograph. I did a search and came up with this thread:

Grrr. I know JC whitney has a glass polishing kit. Any other ideas before I go spending $25? There does seem to be a tiny chip that may expand in the bottom of the glass. Insurance will cover a new one, so I might not sweat it then.

yeah just try polishing it off, with a liquid rubbing compound. Have you tried #0000 steel wool? Personally I'm not using that ever again...someone on this BBS ensured that it wouldn't scratch but it did.
Then again, it might help out in your case. If you use the wool mildly w/ some polish or lubricant, it could take those scratches right off. I think what you're going to have to try to do is either "fill in" those tiny scratches, or "sand" them down at a microscopic level.
