INFO: Exide Battery in Maxima = HORRIBLE experience

Here's the story:

I was once famous for the guy who had the battery that WOULDN'T DIE. My OEM Nissan battery lasted me from Jan 1997 to March 2002. I actually never had a failure with that battery, it was just that it was ugly and spewing acid. People used to laugh at me for never changing it, I actually had acid stains on my valve cover. Anyways, right before a road trip in March I replaced the battery as a preventative measure, it wasn't dying at all, just didn't want to be stuck somewhere because of this old battery.

So be it, I got an Exide battery that was Nissan OE Spec at my local kragen auto part's store. It is now July, and the battery died to the point of not accepting a charge. I drive 20 miles to work, and 20 miles from work every day and that's no traffic, and I never listen to my stereo if the car isn't on.

Anyways, I thought it had to be alternator, but it wasn't. I tested the alternator with the old battery and now with the replacement battery. Both times it's charging at 13.5 AMPS continous and a 13.7 peak (13.6-13.8 is spec), but I feel perhaps the addition of the supercharger on the system might pull it down .1 amp (not a significant amount). Anyways, I will not buy another Exide battery again, perhaps mine was a dud, but still it ****es me off, and I cannot collect on the warranty because I'm out in Texas where Exide isn't sold.

Sorry to hear that man. I have used Exide Nascar series batteries in my cars for years and they have always been excellent. Seems to me you got a bad battery. But from my experience, Exide has been pretty good.

I would write Exide and see what they will do about your situation. Probably nothing, but you never know.

Sounds like you just got a dud, I got an Exide battery 3 years ago and it's worked great. I was skeptical since my car died on a Sunday and the only place that was open stocked only Exide and some other brand... I went with Exide just because I had heard of it.

Yeah I'm certainly not ******* the brand, I'm just frustrated mainly cause I can't get any warranty. I'm sure their batteries are fine, I just got unlucky.

Sorry to hear that man. Can't go wrong with an Optima Deep-Cycle though Even after you completely drain em, they're still good.

hehe that's funny

I had my stock battery for 50K miles, from August of 1997 till April of this year. Ogredave made me change it. All the white flakey stuff caked around the battery drove him insane. I have the yellow top and love it, though I don't think I really need the deep-cycle feature. Maybe I should have got the red top.

Does deep-cycle meet the needs of a car? It's not a boat that only gets used on the weekend. Was it an experiment or why did you get that battery? Still got my OEM after 62k, I always use distilled water but I think last time the dealer threw in some Evian which is not good.....

I came across a deal from a friend that was working with EV's. He had a stash of 30-some-odd Optima Yellow Tops that were used for a month. He sold me 6 at $40 each or something. I couldn't pass up the deal.
