Rubber hangers on Y pipe
Rubber hangers on Y pipe
When I installed my Stillen Y pipe on my 96' maxima a little over a year ago, I never bothered to re-attach the rubber hangers which were holding up the stock Y pipe, it seemed that Stillen Y pipe was light enough and sturdy enough to hold itself there without needing the hanger. However after reading a recent post I heard how this could potentially ruin the flex section of the Y pipe. Its been over a year and I haven't felt any real loss of power or heard any strange sounds coming from my exhuast. Do you think this could still be a potential problem? or is it probably not worth worrying about?
The exhaust goes through signficant mov't with driving. The pipe is basically left to it's own devices from the flex all the way back to the first hanger at the bend of the B-pipe. That is a seriously long and heavy length of exhaust to be supported by the flex. With every bump, turn, and jolt that the car undergoes, your flex is feeling the pain. I would seriously recommend checking the flex for leaks if you haven't already and then put the bracket with hangers back on. If you don't have the brackets, an exhaust shop can make you one with a steel rod.
