Is silencer bad for engine??

To those with after marker exhaust and muflers that come with silencer.

Someone told me before that driving with silencer chokes your car and its not good for it.

I drove without one all the time but got bored of the noise and put one in. Its plesant to ears now. Can I keep it in or should I not drive with it for long time??? Thank you.

silencers arent bad.. it may decrease airflow out the exhaust a tiny bit, but performance wise it's barely noticeable..

and really, a NA engine with aftermarket exhaust gets minimal gains, you are paying for the sound....

if you are boosted, that is a different story

Actually they don't even decrease airflow, the air goes right out at the same rate it used to but it does not resonate in the muffler making unnecesary sound. I have seen dynos with the resonators in and out and there is no hp diff. And no it's not bad for the engine.
