Watching Dateline...

I am watching dateline right now and they are doing a report on the Altima. They said more than 2 dozen people have suffered permanent eye injury from airbags from Nissan Altima. It was the passenger side airbags.. Some caused by accidents that should not have even deployed the airbags...
Are these the same airbags in our cars?

Re: Watching Dateline...

What you don't know about your Altima will kill you, tonight on Dateline. Is the air bag the problem or is it the angle of which the airbag is deployed? Then again, they could just be using a rock mounted to a string in the altimas. joking, joking.

They were talking about 25 people who suffered permanent eye injuries due to the passenger side air bag deploying in 1994 (and early 1995) Altimas. The airbag design was changed in 1995. Sounds like there was a legitimate problem with these bags but I'd suspect there would be problems like this with many airbags at the time. There may be a good case for Nissan to recall the 1994 bags but the hype by Dateline (what you don't know about your Altima could kill you), how they "researched over a year to bring you this very important story" about a car that is 9 years old . . . .makes me roll my eyes a bit. I'm sure there are plenty of the '94 Altima owners out there that could use the information but the news mags really go out of their way to scare the crap out of people. How many people see the promos and not the show? All of those shows seem so biased. anyway . . . no, it's not the same airbag in the maximas (old or new).
