Dissapointed with the Maxima...
Not my Maxima of course.
I went to my local track (a small oval) for the Wacky Wednesday races today.
I was very excited to see a '97-'99 Maxima SE 5spd, as I had never seen one there before. Well from the looks of it he was lowered, had 18"s, and a bomb muffler. Little did I know he was going to race!
When he lined up I had a huge adrenaline rush. My friends and I were both thinking it would kill the newer 3000GT (non-VR4, I don't know the tranny) it lined up against. But it lost by atleast two carlengths at the the end of our maybe 1/2mile oval.
Next he lined up to what looked like an elder 2dr Grand Prix. I KNEW he was going to win. Turns out I didn't know anything, because even that beat him by a carlength!
I didn't get a chance to talk to the guy because he shot out of there when after he lost. It made me think less of the Maxima. Specifically the 5spd. All I can say is that my friends and I are dissapointed that he lost to those two cars, both of which looked unmodded.
I felt a little better after I killed my friend's E30 M3, but I still could not believe the 5spd Maxima lost. Maybe the 5spds really aren't as fast I think they are?

Cyrus you can't base your whole belief on 5-speeds on one idiot who can't drive. I know better then anyone else the power of the 5spd over the auto, and let me tell you its THERE! If I could have cloned my auto and raced it with my 5spd (exact same car) I would destroy it off the line and continue to walk it. I would easily take it from 0-60 by several car lengths. I believe my 5spd to be around .7 quicker then my auto in the 0-60 and 1/4th mile.
When I am in first gear and punch it around 15mph, sometimes my tires will squeel. I can squeel going into second. I can feel the rush in my stomach that my auto couldn't give me.

Here, maybe this will make you feel a little better.
Keep in mind, my Y-Pipe, flex pipe, was starting to block up already at this point.

I still don't understand. A 5spd 3000GT SL runs JUST the same times as a 5spd Max, and that old Grand-Prix thing looked (I'm not saying it is) like a dog! The Maxima cornered well I will say (because of the thick 18"s and suspension), but the lauches sucked and he could not even make up time on the straightaways. He did a burnout for a good 2 or 3 seconds too, but couldn't get great traction. I honestly thought he could take them, but I guess it just didn't have enough power to pass the 3kGT.

And hey Craig, how are you chirping tires so much? I haven't one chirped my tires, auto or stick. I really feel like it's the tires I'm using though. The Bridgestone Potenza RE730s and up (like the S0-3s) grip like crazy. I ran 30 miles straight up and down a mountain with some of the most insane twists and turns, and my tires never chirped once (I was pushing the car pretty hard too just to keep up with my friend's suspension-modded Golf).
hm... maybe my S-03s aren't in "right treadwear" yet, as i've only put 2.4k into it, but i've been chirping them off a 2.2k launch in my 88 supra at will.
anyhow about getting girls in cars, especially ricers. hehehe, i love to just see some idiot in a riced up civic look over, then tries to hang w/ me in a simple right hand corner by montague expressway (in norcal). they swerve so hard, i bet the girl wants to be in my car just cuz it's stable

man LaserRed from Off-Topic.net ran 15.3 in his S4 .. i will never buy one of those.. those are slow
do you guys remember that Ruff 911 Turbo from Island Dragway last summer.. that thing was only running 13.5 .. man i would never waste my money on one of those
you see what this thread is dumb? you see why your thoughts are dumb? any bad driver can make a fast car slow.. and all those accounts are actually factual..
LaserRed had a 2.8 60 ft.. mind you the the car is AWD ..
the guy with the Ruff 911 Turbo had a 3.2 60ft and his car is also AWD
