5-speed Conversion Pics and info
Well this is posted a couple weeks late, but I finally got around to scanning the pictures.
The conversion was done in Jacksonville, FLA w/Chaz Roth (Cbr2). We got to Chaz's "Car yard" around 7pm and completed the conversion sunday around 2:30 pm. It was a LONG but fun process. Since I helped convert it I learned alot about my car and how it works. It gives you a good feeling knowing you got down and helped. I ruined a couple pairs of clothes so anyone thinking of doing this, wear crappy clothes. Chaz made me do all the dirty work so I had fun with the shifter assembly and driveshafts under the car.
It wasn't so bad on the cement under my car, but in the dirt under the donor car is where it got messy!
Friday: drive shafts out. pedals out
Saturday: Parts car additional parts removal, auto out, 5speed in, shifting rods in, pedals in.
Sunday: Bleed system, interior put back together, drive shafts in.
My conversion included a 70K non-locking transmission with all the donor parts from that car with the exception of a new clutch/pressure plate. The transmission is in great shape and shifts with no lag at all. Everything total cost me $1000.

Getting the shifter linkages undone under there was kind of a pain. Everything was WELL worth it though.

Car before with autotragic

Car after with APC ****/pacesetter STS

As you can see the shifter is REALLY short. The throws are really short as well, but stiffer then the stock throws. Good for racing, bad for lazy day to day driving. It's a tradeoff that's un-avoidable with this car becuase the way the shifter linkages are designed you can't get shorter throws without stiffer throws. I like it though. Looks better, and shifts faster.

Gotta love the 5spd eh? KNow the feeling. Although I lost some power in mine for some reason. Before I used to be able to smoke tires while still going 10 mph, now they barely squeal (?). I had the ypipe on before, now its stock, but still thats low rpms. Maybe a knock sensor? Also what was the hardest part for you? For me was drilling that damn hole for the master cylinder b/c i didnt have the right size bit.

YES drilling for the master cylinder was a b!tch!! Instead of getting a hole saw Chaz got a dremel circular peice. We had to SLOWLY sand away the metal until the hole got big enough.
All Ive done so far is install the pedals and master cylinder, and I have to say, making that damn hole was a pain in the a$$!!! Took me about 2 hours! It's a good thing I borrowed a dremel, because a drill would not have done the job for me...

Hmm......maybe. I have another tranny in my garage, I just need to finish rebuilding it. I need 2 parts. They are on the way.

I'm still looking around for another car but if i dont find anything, i'm seriously giving thought to the conversion seeing how many people have had success with it.

I like my ooglie tan cloth womanly interior
Steve(Nycemaxima) Ah, I forgot to list whats wrong with my car now.

-Check engine light. (We used the Auto ecu cause someone didn't want to swap in the manual one)
-Reverse lights. Whenever the car was put into neutral the reverse lights would come on. It is pretty involved (for me at least) to fix it so I just took the damn things out.
-cruise Control doesn't work...that along with the reverse lights we simply overlooked. Damn!

Why didn't you go with 6 gears instead of 5? Just curious. But damn man, that's an awesome mod.
Gives us autos something to dream about.

The N-R switch is wired backwards.. this will fix the reverse lights..
The cruise I think needs for the auto wire harness to have the "D" wires spliced together.. I think the cruise won't engage cuz the car does not think it is in drive.
