Exhuast question/intake
Exhuast question/intake
Do our intakes manifolds injest any kind of exhaust or burnt fuel? I'm reading about a kit thats for our car the re routes the exhuast out of our intake. Whats this all about?

The EGR system is used to lower NOx emission levels caused by high combustion temps. The EGR valve recirculates a small amount of exhaust gases into the intake manifold. The additional mixture lowers the temp of combustion thereby reducing the formation of NOx compounds.
From my experience blocking off the EGR on my old '78 Camaro, I seriously doubt that there would be any significant gain by doing this to our cars. I had cold start and idling problems from it. Our cars may not suffer from it (I'm no expert) due to the ECM adjusting. Or the ECM could throw a DTC because of it. Regardless, I think it would cause problems with emissions testing for those in states that require it (Louisiana has no emissions tests!
). Personally, I would not mess with the emissions system in the hopes of gaining what I think would be negligible performance gains. But I could be wrong and disabling the EGR on a computer-controlled car could give 20 hp! Just my thoughts. Hope it helps.Dave
