I heard that the cattman coilovers are being redesigned. What is being redesigned, how is this going to affect performance, price, etc?

For those of you who already have the Cattman coilovers, how much can you drop the car?

The Re-design

Per Brian Cattman, the re-design is to make the coil overs less harsh and more street friendly. I would estimate the overall performance to be about the same under mos tconditions. Only in extreme road race conditions would I expect to see a difference. The cost wilkl go up due to the re-design.

We will have the new pricing as soon as the product is finished.

Regards

When oh when?

- Hey guys, I just saw your site - very nifty. Do you have an estimate on when the redesign will be complete?
- Also, I had ordered a FSTB from Cattman about 2.5 weeks ago and it's still not in. They said it was on back-order, but do you have any idea on when I'll get it?
- Thanks! ;-)

Re: When oh when?

From what we are told, the re-design will be around the end of January +/-. I do not have any backorder data on the fstb.

Regards

I just finished speaking with Brian about this and there

has been some misunderstanding this is what he said "No, absolutely not, the rumor about the softer setting is irrelevant to the redesign. The difference will lie in a completely redesigned camber plate that will sit above the strut tower to extend strut clearance and add caster control. A new bearing interface will smooth out the contact
between the front spring hat and top mount to eliminate the pinging and minor binding that occurs during slow turns. I anticipate some corresponding design in the rear, but in all cases, the primary changes occur in the top mount areas, though I may also implement an improved sleeve and perch design. I'm looking at this being in production by the end of January. Its a complex system and there are a lot of changes, but I think its about 6 weeks out." He mentioned that the price will go up about 200 dollars from the 1500.00, and that he has the regular set on sale, and
there will be an upgrade kit to bring the old style up to the new ones; But he doesn't know how much that will run.
"All of this being said, I will be using the same KYB AGX struts and actually going to a very nice 400lb linear rate spring on all 4 corners."

Very interesting indeed. how did you speak to him, he doesnt reply to my emails and their phone always seems to not have anybody answering.

Also, any idea why the spings are linear rate? It would seem to me progressive wound springs would be much better for racing suspension like this.

You want linear springs. Trust me.

Progressive springs are designed to be softer intially (usually, anyway) for comfort. 50lb/in for a small bump feels a lot better to your kidneys than 400lb/in.

Actually I don't know enough to fully explain why. It's better from my experience. Trust Cattman, Ground Control, Shoktek, Truechoice, and Progress. They all use linear springs.
