What is a good price on a 99 SE-L?
I just bought my 5 speed 99 SE with almost every option with 38000 miles for $13000. I got it for about $100 over loan value! I love these forums and my Maxima. BTW it came with the rear anti-sway bar and Stillen Intake!

Does the car have Leather? If so I believe it's 1 of about 250 ever made.
I'd grab it.

I'm going back today. Should I ask for $14,500?
Start lower than you want to pay...If you say 14.5 they will counter higher...if you went 13.5 they may say the best they can do is 14.5!....Always start low, you can always come up. The books say 5 speeds are worth less than auto's also.

average miles for a 99 is around 51k so the miles arent bad for a car thats almost 4 years old. if its a real nice car, no dents, paint work, clean interior, etc, 14.5-15 aint a bad price atleast in my area
I just ran an NADA report, and here is the the breakdown.
1999 Nissan MAXIMA-V6
Sedan 4 Door SE
55,000 miles
Average Trade-In Average Retail
Base Price $14,950 $17,450
Mileage Adjustment
55,000 miles subtract: ($175) ($175)
Options and Equipment
W/out Automatic Trans. subtract: ($575) ($575)
Theft Recovery System add: $50 $50
Bose Stereo (Std. GLE) add: $200 $200
Leather Seats (Std. GLE) add: $350 $350
Aluminum/Alloy Wheels add: $200 $200
Power Sunroof add: $625 $625
Total Price $15,625 $18,125
So that sounds like a great price to me. Especially since it is the SE-L, red, and a 5 spd!
I sold the 99 in my sig pic for $14750 with 80,000 miles on it! I would definately jump on this one!

KBB Private party rated in Excellent condition where I live is $15,100. Retail is $17,920.
Go in there ready to buy and low ball them...all they can say is no. Offer them $13,500, they will likely come back with $14,500. That would be great. You could counter-counter and offer $14,000 if you want. Be firm, make them believe that you will leave if they don't meat your ultimate price.
Good luck! I buy and sell cars all the time, so I am often on BOTH ends of these transactions!

Why are some so caught up in a retail state of mind? Today they announced that for July, existing home sales were at a 7-month low, yet some buyers are still offering more than the selling price because they thought they saw their dream home and want to be part of the real-estate bubble. When you allow yourself to do that you will always pay more, much more, no matter what anyone tells you. Just use common-sense--$15k for a '99 SE-L? that defies sensibility imho

The payment on a $15k car at 7% for 60 months is $297. Total interest paid will be $2821.
I have NEVER seen anywhere a new 2k2 selling for anything less than $24, ESPECIALLY a fully loaded SE. The GXE's practically don't exist anymore. So you would have to get a base SE, which are still pulling down $24-$25k.
But I will humor you. Payment on $21k @ 7% for 60 months is $415.83 Interest will be $3950
For a less unrealistic price like $24k, it is $475.23
For a realisic FULLY loaded SE price (minus Nav) at $28k you are looking at $554.43. On this car, you will pay $5266 in INTEREST alone!
So $15,000 for a fully loaded SE with 55k miles that stickered for $31,000 is just fine in my opinion. Clearly you have lots of cash, because $6000 or $118 per month is no object. I make good money, but I also have a new house, a new baby, student loans, a wife, and another car payment. The $118 or more reallistically the $198 difference per month does make a difference.

couldn't have put it better myself. I'm glad that not everyone here is young and single, with no mortgage payments etc!
I'm 27, married, we have a $1100 a month mortgage payment, no car payments, but still live on a tight budget!
Maybe the $6500 we blew in a 3 week trip to England (not including tickets) has something to do with it!
Come on guys, if you want to be taken seriously, at least don't quote kbb retail values as meaningful numbers. If you want an educated estimate of a car's value from a pro, go to Edmund's forum in the Smart Shopper section and post in the "Real World trade-in values" thread.

I quoted him NADA first didn't I? Dealers in my region do not ever use KBB, they always use NADA. None of them ever use Edmunds either. They tend to try to sell cars quoting KBB and buy cars using nada. Surprisingly in this case NADA comes out higher than KBB.
When I look at a car, I always look at in terms of selling it. I always try to buy at least $1000 or $1500 back of low NADA book, and plan to sell at $1000 or $1500 over low nada (depending on the car of course.) I NEVER operate in retail realm, much less the KBB retail realm. Don't you think I am a novice. However, many large dealerships DO operate in the retail realm.
I could easily turn that car in my area for $15+.
If he gets it for $14ish then he is doing just fine.
