If I know that there is a red light up ahead and I will need to stop I put my car into N around 3/4 of a block from the light and cost to a stop. However as soon as I put it into N I let go of the clutch.

I am 10 times better now after about a week of driving stick.. No longer do i have problems on hills but the only thing that is not smooth and weird sounding is my start..
when i put it in first and take off i get some vibration and i guess you can call it grinding, car studders a bit before i let the clutch out completely..
Is this normal? What am I doing wrong?
any tips on how to take off properly?
also, i had some problems with the 5 speed yesturday, maybe someone here can answer this question for me as well:

I buckle a little bit..
i'm trying to release the clutch as slow as i can but sometimes you have to do it quicker.. though i'm still not letting it go any faster than i do in other gears but it feels weird..
I'm just picking up on the whole process of shifting smooth and fast.
I let the clutch out about half way then start to add gas and let it go further.. when you do it as a single non stop motion it's nice and smooth and the ****ing thing flys
well i know i do not drive a max but
well i have driven alot in my days and well i think when you put it in gear just match that friction piont just right and then pull off strong, try to keep it out of the twin cam, cause maybe it could be rough going in to different gears,my gear box is differnt also ihad a problem hit third for a long time. all to gether it just all takes time a pratice man.

you are either not giving enough gas or releasing the clutch too quickly. the rumbling/stuttering is the car trying to stall. i think thats what you are talking about...
I have searched a few threads but couldnt find an answer. Is it bad to not push the clutch all the way down to shift? I shift a lot smoother when pushing it half way down. Will it cause more wear on the clutch? I dont hear anything bad and it feels smooth so I would think its ok. Also, when taking off in first, is it bad to rev to about 1k before releasing the clutch? I can take off with out reving but sometimes it might shake (about to stall).

So are we saying that when you're going, say, 50 mph in 5th, and someone tries to pass you, and you don't want them to, and you drop it into 2nd, that it's retarded to double clutch instead of just dropping it straight into 2nd (revving the engine which shifting)? I thought from the way everything is hooked up that it's better to double clutch there (making a very smooth transition at the transmission).
