Blue LED hooked up to A'PEXi RSM = shift light

I finally decided to ghetto rig a blue LED to a wire on the RSM to form a shift light (look in the RSM instructions if you're interested). Right now, the shift light goes off when I hit 3500 (breaking in clutch), but it can be set to anything you want (can go beyond our rev limiter).

When the clutch is broken in, I will set it to go off at 6400.

Can I hook up the LED to my EGT or A/F meter or even FP gauge and somehow get it to come on at a predetermined time. In other words, could I hook this up so that say at 1300F it comes on as a warning light?

 

if you know the exact voltage of when the gauge hits 1300F then realistically, yes, you can set a bread-board with the correct voltages to sense , for example 2.4v, and then open a switch to the LED.

Sure.


The reason why I can do this is because the RSM has an extra wire that acts as a switching ground at a preset RPM. The project includes connecting the wires to a relay so power will be delivered to the LED when the RSM hits the RPM.

Where did you splice into the signal wire for the shift light?
I tried splicing into the wire going to the OEM tachometer & it "stole" the tach signal.

The shift light is wired off the A'PEXi Rev/Speed Meter. The ECU was never touched.

 

Okay...then where is your A'PEXi Rev/Speed Meter wired to?

 

To the ECU, but the device figures out when the trip off the shift light (RSM taps into the rev wire).
