why would anybody use a clay bar if it strips your clear coat

why would anybody use a clay bar if it strips your clear coat

This morning i went out any bought a clay bar kit. When i got home my dad was like "you cant use that shi* on your car..it will take off the clear coat" is this true, if not send me a link that proves it wont hurt my maxis paint job so i can clay my car and be happy.

It won't Brian, he's wrong. Read the box, I believe it says "Safe for clearcoats" somewhere on it. I've used the stuff many times before and it will not harm the paint at all.

Clay bars, if used properly - ie with plenty of lubrication - will not harm your paint or clear coat. Here are some descriptions on how clay bars work. Both links mention that it is safe on your clear coat.

When I first clayed my then 4-year old car I was amazed at how smooth the paint turned out.
