how wide of slicks on stock rims
#4
I forgot to ask, are you using 15" or 16" rims? Anyways...
I am using an M&H Racemaster 6.0/26.0-15 on my 15x6.0 Mazda Millenia wheels. This and M&Hs 7.5/23.0-15 are the only slicks recommended on their site that can go on a wheel smaller than 8" wide. They both can go on wheels as narrow as 6.0". In 16" slicks you have no options.
In Mickey Thompsons, there is no tire (on their website at least) that will fit a 16x6.5 or a 15x6.5, the closest is a 22.0/8.0-15, which is recommended on a rim width of 7", so you are .5" shy.
Personally I chose the 6/26-15 because the large diameter will allow me to run 3rd gear through the finish line, rather than shifting to 4th. I have not tried these tires at the track yet, that's tomorrow. I'll post back with my results.
It seems to me if you want to mount a slick on a maxima, your best option is to get a 15x8 wheel, as both M&H and MT have lots of sizes that will fit a 15x8.
