Stickin' with the Maxima?

Some members here are loyal to the Maxima name and have bought more than 1 in their lifetime. You guys returned to the Maxima because of previous experience of how it was smooth and powerful. I want to be the same way and own another maxima in the future. I have had great experience with my first Maxima so far. The 6th generation maxima looks too large and the styling is a little off. What are you loyal Maxima owners going to do? Are you going to jump the boat to another car? Go a little more upscale to Infinity? whatt!?

Im sure some of them will go with the maxima, its not that expensive, fairly big, looks good, and fast. The G35 and 350z is looking great, and I cant wait to see the infiniti skyline!!!

There's nothing wrong with the Maxima, considering THE PRICE. I just came across my window sticker this weekend for the '98 SE--$29,383.00. Imagine the car woulda been over 30 if it were an auto, yet I got it new in the 22's. That's what Maxima owners like, cheap price, always decent HP. Is it an above average car? Yes. Affordable? Yes. But imho there's no need to get all sentimental about them and make plans to buy another one. These cars can go 8 years easy, alot changes in that time. Considering that some of us are under 30 and many are under 20, hopefully we can aspire to better when the Maxima is due for a replacement.

ok I love Maximas as much as anyone else on this site, but I am brand loyal. Altima 3.5 SE, Sentra SE-R Spec V, G35, G35 sport coupe, 350Z all possible cars for my next. If the 6th Gen Maxima is 2 big for my taste, ill get over it

When I do purchase another car, it will be a Maxima. I'm very please with my Max. You get the best of both worlds with Maxima. When I need to transport my family it give me enough passenger space to do so and it gives you that kick butt horsepower when needed also. No doubt I'm sold!!!

hard to say...ill be keeping my 3rd gen for awhile i dont know how im ever going to be able to get rid of it when the time comes

as for a next car, the max shall remain on my list - most likely a 5th gen...no 4th gens If insurance is fair enough by then i may consider a 4th gen Camaro/Firebird

NO! I Won't Let You Do It! NO CAMAROS! Get a late model 300ZX...c'mon..don't jump to a car that has problems after 30K miles. If not a late model 300ZX, maybe a 3000gt vr4?

i wouldn't mind having a third gen. if I could afford to buy a rolling chassis it would be a 3rd gen then i'd throw a VQ30DE in it and a 5-speed tranny.

That'd be cool, all I need is the engine and tranny But back to the original question, I'm planning on keeping my Max and adding a 2002 or 2003 Max to my "collection" in a few years (once I can save up enough money).

Hmm...

I never really liked new cars (payments and all that crap)

I think I'll get rid of my 97 gxe AT and get a 97-99 gle 5spd with leather, sunroof and everything... then get that turbo

Although it would be nicer to find a good 3rd gen and rebuild the engine, upgrade components, and slap a turbo on that bad boy...

I like the 5th gens, but until they're at least 5 years old, all i'd take from them is the majestic blue paint job

I think you're really smart to say you don't like new car payments. It took me a while to catch on one day I woke up and realized that no matter how much we earn it's never enough! I used to pay just over a thousand a month for rent and people told me for another 500 to a thousand you could own your own house and plus you deduct the interest payments. I was like get out.....

The reality in life is whatever you spend on your car you take away from your house--it's that simple. That's why I think you see restaurant owners driving S500 etc. I'd bet they don't have a good house because the food in their take-out restaurants certainly is not good to make the coyne for that car.

Either that or you see homw owners with nice cars because they found out about grants & low interest loans for first-time homeowners.

I'm only 19 so i plan on being a first-time home owner around 2007-2008 when i'm way out of college and have been in the job market for like 3-4 years. At that time i'd probably have enough to either get a 2002 M5 (i like 4 doors), or a 2004 GT-R (Nissan or Infinity if it ever does get here). The M5 would be 5 years old and the GT-R would be 3 years old. Hopefully depreciation works in my favor

Good forward thinking!

Right now the interest rates are the lowest in like 41 years. Problem is it's driven real estate prices through the roof. But as long as a person is not afraid to low-ball an offer and in many cases get rejected by the seller, then the low interest is a good thing. The economy s**** so I don't see rates going up too much this year, but what do I know? You may graduate college and make too much money for the FHA loan btw. M5 is outrageous! Doesn't the upcoming RS 6 have even more power? But very limited production numbers....

Guys, remember , a car is NOT an invesment, a house is. When you get a house ,your payment go into your future. A car start loosing value as soon as you leave the dealer (so is the warranty).
I am middle 30's and I have been through all that " I have a life time ahead to catch up" mentallity. Trust me on this one......Don't go over you head on a car.....

I't nice to see org members discussing some wise stuff. especially for those under 20 still in high school with their whole life ahead of them. It's okay to have a nice car and all but it's even better to have a nice car a nice house, good retirement plan, tuition taken care of for the kids etc...

I would definately buy another maxima it's not that you should be pressured to go up to the next level meaning something more with more prestige. There is really not that much more you need in a car that you can get for 30K. really is it nesecary to go and buy a 100K Sclass Benz that has all the bells and wistles. Then after 4 years start breaking and you find yourself paying high service charges to fix?

All I need is my Majestic Blue Max

Well Said! I am close to 17 and this helped me out. Yeah but maybe when I am older I will return to the Maxima, I want something a little more sporty for now. Maybe a EVO (too much $$), maybe a WRX, or the best option for me is a SE-R Spec V (cheapest and not too much insurance since it's a sentra)

I have wanted a Maxima for yeasr and I finally got one this past June. I will be keeping it for a VERY long time. When I do get another vehicle, whether it be another Maxima or not, I will probably keep it. Besides, I have years and years of moding ahead of me!!

I've had my 4th gen or nearly 4 years now and I won't be getting another Maxima. Don't get me wrong, I love Maximas and I'll recommend the Max to anyone, but I want my next car to be RWD. If the 6th gen Max was going to be RWD, I'd get it in a second. Right now I'm leaning towards the G35 or possibly the GS400. I'll have to drive both the 6 speed (when available) and the 5 speed auto in the G35. I'm one of the guys that also hates new car payments. I like buying 1-2 year old cars and let the first buyer take the initial hit. If I go with the 6 speed, it means my choices will be limited and expensive (assuming anyone is willing to get rid of their 6 speed that's only 1 year old). I figure I'll start looking at getting a new car within a year or so. I plan on spending $20-25K.

I wouldn't consider buying a redigned nissan in the first 2 years of the model cycle. Nissan does great mid-model refreshings on there sedans and if you buy the 6th gen in the 1st 2 years it's on the road you will be kicking yourself for not waiting till the model refreshening. Look at all the 2000 Max owners that trade their Max in for 2002 and 2003 Maximas.

My two cents are right along these lines. It's hard to plan into the future too far financially, especially if you haven't graduated college yet (hopefully December 03 for me). When I look in the future and consider car ownership, I try to convince myself that anything $28k (Maxima included) and above is just too much - I expect a lot of financial turbulence and settling on things like living expenses (home ownership? etc), and so on. You just gotta justify buying a cheaper car to yourself..."Oh, yea, that means when I work on it and bust some parts, they won't cost as much". What's hard is finding the right line between cheap and still fun. If I was a true low-baller financially, I'd be driving a Hyandui Accent until I was well into salary wages

The maxima is a nice ride for what it is. Personally I think I yearn for something a little more sporty...

Yeah being 16 (in November) I too have had to consider the whole car buying garbage crap, if it was up to me I'd just get a 1997 240SX and call it quits...but it's not even when I get a job (Publix...Yeah) I won't be making jack-beans for cash..once insurence, and what ever car payments there are...bummer. So anyway lease goes up on Maxima in March...My Dad want's a 350Z but doubts he'll even consider one because of the no 2by2 option....(I'll the oldest of 5) so what eve we get must seat at least 4.
Mom want's a MiniVan..Honda Odyssey! yeah 240HP...I think the Mazda Mpv is cooler but not as fast...bummer.
And Me well considering what ever we get I will have the pleasure of driving it...yeah.
Ahhhhh Why!?!?!?!? I hate High School My best Friend Has a 1995 RX-7...I might get a friggin' minivan?...oh well I'll just be grateful for what I have...Uh what was this thread about again?

Best option is SE-R specV...

Has everyone seen that race video of a 55shot Zex Nitrous 99 Civic vs. RSX-S vs. SE-R specV? Search for it...you'll trade in your maxima for a SE-R when you see the video...or not

I'm driving this car until it dies, then I'm most likely gonna move on to something RWD. I'm thinking about a GS400. Keep in mind, I'm thinking about 6-8 years ahead I could buy a newer max(looking for a VE five speed right now), but I know mine will last me for at least 150-160k, plus its paid off

Well, the max suits me best as a 17 year old now, because of low insurance cost and fuel economy.
