Went to the track, still disappointed
I went to the track last night and am still disappointed in what I am pulling. My best was a 14.961 @ 92.73. This is unacceptable. I had my front wheel swapped out with my stock 16" rims with BFG GForce T/A kdws tires, AND I took out probably about 100 pounds of stereo equipment from the trunk. My best this year was a 14.76 @ 93.8, but that was WITH the stereo in tow. Last night the conditions were in the 70s. The humidity guage said it was 95+ percent relative humidity and baro at 30.3 but I dunno if that was accurate. The 14.9 run I had a 2.303 60 foot. I probably would have done better my final run as I pulled a 2.27 60 foot but then I screwed up the 3rd gear shift. Not wanting to jam it into 3rd after I missed as 3rd already blew on me 3 weeks before I slowly put it in 3rd and wound up running 15.4 @ 89.
What perplexes me is why my trap speed is still so low. Everybody is running 95+ trap speeds with similar mods and I've never gotten over 93 mph, and yesterday was no faster then 92.7 mph.
I've also gotten 92 MPH trap speeds even running the extremely heavy Momo Arrows about a month ago at the track.
My Mods include- a cone intake, the OEM midpipe silence is still there. A Cattman Y with new flex section. Stillen B. Stock cat and muffler.
Maintenence Details also include: OEM NGK spark plugs replaced no more then 10k miles ago, torqued to spec with torque wrench. Fuel filter JUST changed. Hesistation on startup problem gone. Not sure if it was due to my tranny job or the fact I pulled the fuel filter. I do not have the 0304 knock sensor code, but with my luck it is probably broken.
One theory was the Quaife differential is slowing me down because of the added weight. I was fortunate to weigh the open vs the quaife last time I had the tranny out and it is 6 pounds heavier then stock. So I dont think it is slowing me down that much. My tires are on the heavy side, I believe the 16" stock rims and tires are in the neighborhood of 43 pounds. The G-force TA tires do have quite some mass to them. Heavy tread blocks and stiff sidewall inserts.
My other theorys on why my car is so freakin slow is maybe the air filter is clogged. Also, I'm wondering if my exhaust tip is maybe being restrictive a litle. I remember I ran the 14.7 time after my tip had fallen off.
Last night was also a loosing battle as I was placed against muscle cars, except for one civic SI which was completely gutted. I still beat him by several car lengths and .6 seconds.
I gotta be missing something. What is wrong!?!?!?

what tire pressure are you running on the fronts? do you think traction is an issue or is it just mad wheel hop?? your 60' time could be better.
could the high humidity have played a factor??
and....did you remember to fold the mirrors?

Re: Went to the track, still disappointed
perhaps the left over cotton and stuffing from those countless mattresses and pillows are suck somewhere in your engine.
time for Hybrid CAI/SI?
jOo know its better.

What are your shift points? If you're staying in 3rd, you'll never break 93-94mph.
Humidity is far worse that hot air. Humid air is full of water and takes the place of the o2 in the air.
Get a vacuum gauge. With a vacuum gauge you can determine a ton of things like burnt/sticking valves, rich/lean conditions, clogged exhaust stream, and vacuum leaks. For $30 (Mityvac), it's a wise investment. The Mityvac also includes provisions to bleed your brakes.

I have a friend who has a Mity vac. Infact this is what I used to bleed the clutch line. I may have to check it out along with my compression.
Maybe it is because of my heavy rims/tires. The stock 16"s with BFG kdws tires are still very heavy, only 2 pounds or so lighter then the really heavy Momo Arrow wheels. I picked up those subaru's rims yesterday and were like wow these rims are light. What bothers me is even though I shed the stereo, the MPH did not improve at all.
I was not the only max running slow that night, there was a 96 auto running 16.5s at 85 mph. I forgot who it was but he was pretty amazed at my 14.9 time.

Lower humidity would only account for about .2 mph increase with 50% verses 95%.
I believe the factory pipe feeding the muffler is a big restriction. Try doing what I did and see if your mph won't improve.
