Help Help Air Fuel Mixture Question

I put the guage on my car and hooked it up to the front bank O2 Sensor. I've noticed that at normal driving, I have multiple lights showing. All of them are in a group but maybe 4 or 5 lights. Then when I'm at WOT it just shuts down into the far "rich" corner. Is this normal have I set this up correctly?

Most A/F ratio gauges are a nice light show, unless you get the really expensive ones like Greddy or Tomei.

if you're WOT, then more fuel goes into your engine..thus it runs rich.

Well it just falls off to the green dot. which the guage doesn't show at any other time. Normally I've noticed that it fades back and forth. But I'll go from 4 yellow lights, then to 1 green light. I'm wondering if I have a wire backwards. The directions and the chiltons manual left a lot to the imagination.

What is happening is that at cruise the mixture varies quite fast as the ecu reads the O2 sensor as too rich/too lean/too rich/too lean and the sample time/ hold time of the gauge causes this to come up as a range. It should be on the lean side most of the time. When you go WOT the mixture goes open loop - fixed value, and rich for max power without detonation. With a very good meter - or dvm, you can see the mixture sweep, it's entertaining, not much use unless you have a problem or a way to adjust mixture.

Not on this car, just 4 previous racecars.

Oh okay, Its just that if I go to WOT in a higher gear that it doesn't do this as quickly. Like in 4th gear it doesn't burry in the "rich" side till about 4500 rpms with the foot to the floor. But in first and second it does this right away. I wasn't sure if I had connected to the wrong wire. So I guess that it is a good thing to have it do what its doing rather than continue to fade the other direction. Is it common for 5 or so lights to be lit up while cruising? They do fade into a brighter color and fade out--kind of like a doppler effect, but with lights instead of sound.

The wot sounds right, the cruise sounds a little odd but I'd think it's the meter - it's hard to imagine wot being right and not the rest. I'm used to more of a bargraph type - more lights means more rich going from right to left.
