WSP = Bees in a can????? Odd noises....

Well, I've had my WSP y pipe installed for some months now, and ever since I had it installed, I've heard something that sounds like the imfamous "bees in a can", but I always dismissed the idea becuase I thought WSP never had any bees. My set-up is the WSP, custom B pipe, and Stillen muffler. I didn't hear any bee noises before the y pipe, so I think its the y pipe.
I took the car to get checked out, and banged on my cat because I though I might have a rock or something in there, but no noises came from the cat. The sounds is really terrible when I'm creeping along around 2000-3000 RPMs, and continues till redline, just not quite as loud.
Also, sometimes when I start my car, the exhaust sounds extremely quiet. Almost like I have a stock muffler. I don't feel any loss of power, its just quieter. This usually only last until I turn the car off, and then next time I start, its at its normal volume. It only happens about once a month, and is fairly random.

If anyone can answer either of my questions, I would appreciate it a lot. Does anybody have a sound clip of what bees in a can really sound like? I'm still curious to know if I really have them. Thanks.

As you drive it gets louder and louder right? I have the exact same thing, well mine is way worse. Where the b-pipe and muffler meet at the flange, it rusted through so I have pipe hitting a pipe when I go over every pebble. It gets worse after driving for 5 mins. Check for leaks or loose fittings. Maybe whoever installed it did a half assed job. WSP don't have bees in a can sound...

I just installed my WSP Y pipe this weekend. The only other exhaust modification I have is a Tesudo Muffler (I'll do a write up in another thread) Anyway when I started up the car it sounded perfect, I am very conservative about sound but the difference between just the muffler and the muffler plus the Y pipe was just a slightly deeper note, and little more aggresive at WOT. However, when ever I would really get on the throttle I would hear some rattling/buzzing underneath my shifter. I thought Oh no the dreaded bees in the can sound that everyones been talking about. It didn't do it when I would rev it up so I knew it had to be when it was under heavy load. I jacked it up on a floor jack and had a friend power brake it in first and give it a little gas (be carefull if you try this) When the the car is put under load the Y pipe would move pretty aggresivly (thank god for the flex section) and it was actually hitting the old mounting bracket from the stock Y pipe. I bent it out of the way and that helped a lot, but I was finally able to solve the problem by just cutting a small section of the bracket located right above the Y pipe, nothing that even the most season maxima mechanic would be able to see.) So if your noise only occurs for a short time, and it sounds more like a vibration this may be your problem. However if it is constant like a cheep honda with gutted cats it's probably not your Y-pipe. If your exhaust is completely gutted thats what it is. Just put the main cat back on, it only gives you about 1 hp anyway. Other than that try putting your stock B-Pipe on, it won't hurt your hp that much and might give you a clue of where the problem is. With my Y-pipe and Tesudo muffler my Maxima's sound is very comparible to a 3000gt. Just a deep throaty growl that is constant, I was very impressed with the sound, seeing as I was very nervous about it sounding like a Honda with a straight pipe. In fact a fireman from next door came over while I was doing the swap. After he heard it, and after I talked to him about the possiblities of the max, he called his wife and told her he was starting on a new project car, her Maxima

My first Warpspeed aluminum y-pipe HAD BEES IN A CAN SOUND. My 2nd Warpspeed(the stainless steel) has none. My first one was an early one though and had fitment problems, so they sent me a stainless steel one.
