Brakes on the 2K2 Maxima SE

Hey everybody,

I have a 2K2 SE, and my brakes are acting really weird. Every time I leave my car for a few hours, whenever I get it and drive it, the brakes grind REALLY badly on my first stop. Like when I pull my car out of my driveway and stop at the first stopsign in my neighborhood, without fail the brakes will grind terribly, but it only does this that one time, until I get out of the car and drive it again the next time. What could the problem be?? Should I take it to the dealer?

Thanks,
Lloyd

Next time before you start driving check and see if you have light rust spots on the rotor. It sounds like the pads are scrubbing off the rust on your first brake application. Is it humid where you live?

Yeah, I live in Atlanta. The humidity is pretty terrible. But would it rust even after a few hours? I'm talking I get to my GF's house around 7, leave at like 10 and it grinds. Would that be consistent with rust?

Thanks,
Lloyd

I used to live in Malibu, CA and my rotors were always covered with slight rust spots within hours after I park. My brakes made a grind sound on its first application too. After I wash my car the brakes will groan on the first application because of the rust spots caused by the water exposure. After that the brakes are quiet.

I don't think its necessary to make a trip to the dealership, but if it gives you peace of mind then go right ahead.

yeah, this happens to my 2k2 as well. i've already posted a thread about this and everyone tend to think it's just oxidation. What's weird is that this never happend to my 96 which i've driven for the past 5 years. Maybe nissan is now using different rotors?
