Maxima = Mustang?

When you line up against a Mustang you never know what you are gonna get. You usually don't know if it is an auto or stick, engine and exhaust work, if it na or blown, etc. It can really embarrassing when you get your doors blown off.

Similarly for people going up against a Max they never know what kind of driver is behind the wheel. Is the driver in the demographic majority of "this car is reliable transportation" or an enthusiast. Either way it can be embarrasing for the opposing car. They either chirp their tires against nobody or they quite possibly get humiliated by a 4-door g.g.

Sorry, just some random thoughts because I see a lot of older people just cruising in their Maximas.

It's not embarassing losing to a car that's meant for speed...it should be embarassing for them to lose to a family car.

That's typically what the Maxima was made for.

majority of the maximas a person will run into will be stock/mild bolt ons.

v-8 mustangs are aside from the ones that are driven by teenny bopper girls are usually fixed up.

basically the likelyhood of pulling up to a kev or matt or thomas is highly unlikely.

on the other hand mustangs that are blistering fast are out there by the dozen.

agreed mustangs may not be the best analogy. i think a better analogy would be a civic. as much as i may hate to admit. i refer mainly to hatch backs as well. out of the box they are slow. but you never know what the guy has done to the car. you never now if the car has a dx motor w/109 hp or a type r motor w/190 hp and an ungodly redline of 8-9k.

and yes i have run into to many civic hatch backs 91 thru 00 that have had major motor work done and are capable off running down a v8 mustang.

just my thoughts. you really just never know.

Well, we can throw out that comparison right there then

Maybe your comparisson of one of those civics with an engine swap and a lot of work could be more like a turboed VG.. not to pick on any VG guys of course.

They do get embarassed, and pretend like they slowed down to take a corner and get the hell out of there as fast as possible...

I however give the thumbs up when I lose. Hey we're all enthusiast...

are you sure about that? Mustang v6's are easy..but the GT is faster than us but it also depends on the driver. Oh yeah, most mustangs will beat us Maximas, who keeps their mustang stock?

oh by the way...

Maxima does not Equal Mustang

heres a comparision:

Lots of Cabin room vs. cramped cabin room
front wheel drive vs. rear wheel drive
japanese technology engine vs. american muscle v8 (the GT)
Little Aftermarket vs. Everything possible
4 Door Sedan vs. Sporty Coupe
Nissan Reliability vs. Ford Reliability
Barely Known vs. Legend
etc. etc. etc.

heres the thing we have in common:

owners with a love for cars! (at least on maxima.org anyway)

It's funny, you'll find a lot of Mustang guys also own Maximas or traded in for Maximas. I can remember nearly 8 years ago, being with my buddy in his 90 LX 5.0 hatchback and a red 3rd gen rolled up to us. The race started from 15mph and the Max stayed with the 5.0 in 1st, then my buddy missed 2nd, and the Max took off. We weren't able to catch it. My buddy was ****ed because his car constantly went lower 14s. When you miss a shift, it's all over.

I traded in a 94 Z28 (mid 13s) for my Maxima. I can tell you that my modded Maxima is a far more impressive package than my modded Z28 ever was. Everyone expects you to be fast when you've got a Z28 and no one thinks you're fast in a Maxima. Most Domestic guys still think Maximas are along the same performance levels as an Accord/Camry (not the 2003). When you smack them around at the track, it becomes painfully obvious that a light sedan with torquey and powerful V6 can be quite some competition. My Maxima, before installing the VI, was damn close to rivaling the trap speeds of my Z28 when it was stock (99mph). That just blows my mind that this little 3.0 V6 is this powerful. I've had far more fun in this car than the Z28. It's a slower car, but it does everything very well.

I pulled up to a Taurus SHO 2 days ago and this guy had neon and little blinking lights on his valve stems. and looks over at me and down at my rims and snickers. I was thinking, "Oh dear god I'm going to own joo." as I put the car in first gear and turn my hat around backwards like his. The light turns green and I hear this odd swirl noise come from his car and his tires start to sift through black top to find something to grip on. As he pulls away from me after my beautiful launch and chirp into second. I notice a little placard on his rear deck lid. VORTECH SUPERCHARGERS

There are plenty of cars that look ghey or ordinary or both. Doesn't mean that the driver behind the wheel doesn't live in a cardboard extension of his trunk and puts ALL of his wellfare into the car.

My stock Z28 auto went 13.99@99mph with a 2.0 60' and my Maxima has gone 14.64@97.8mph with a 2.30 60'. Really the only difference between my Maxima and the stock Z28 was that the Z28 hooked up off the line. From a 10mph roll, my Maxima would have been neck and neck with my stock Z28. That's pretty impressive. With the VI, my Max would walk my stock Z28.

5.0s & 4.6s mustangs stock are a good match up for stock/modded 4th gens.
i even beat a modded 4.6.

when you add an auto or the convert. option we really begin to separate from them.

I took acouple of girls home from a club afew months back, and the one in the back was trying to figure out what type of car it is. I hear "What type of car is this? A Grand Prix?" and the one in the front goes "No silly, it's a mustang!"

I didn't know wether to laugh or be insulted. I guess since it's an auto, as long as she didn't say "v6 mustang", it's all good
