I'm making this post short, I'll post tons of details about my runs later of course, like I always do.

My mods are:
JWT POP
Cattman SS Y
WSP Testpipe
MEVI set at 5000
weight reduction
M&H slicks @ 23psi

My best ET run was:

13.999 @ 97.24mph with a 1.996 60' and its on VIDEO.

I also ran a 14.042 @ 97.24mph (again) with a 1.96 60'

I was also very happy about my highest trap speed of the day: a run which ended up 14.206 @ 98.38mph, wow. 60' on that was a 2.05.

My other 2 runs were 14.145 @ 98.03 mph (1.998 60') and 14.136 @ 97.04 (2.062 60').

Unfortunately Brian is a lame-as$ and does not a have a firewire cable so we can't put the video on the net right now. HOPEFULLY that will happen on Monday since he works all day Sunday.

So guys I wasn't BSing in my sig for all these months. I finally made it. I was so stoked when I was handed that timeslip I thought for sure it was a typo, but I backed it up with a 14.04 banging off the rev limiter in 2nd (oops).

More detail tomorrow some time. Video Monday I hope.
Good going Neal!

Wow, several 0-60ft times under 2s.

Great runs. I need to get my head out of the 5th gen forums and pay attention elsewhere sometimes. I thought for sure the first 13s NA max would be a 2k2...

The 5th genners are going to go ape.

That's great news! Amazing 60' times. I'm curious, what were your 1/4 times and speed when your car was bone stock?

the wheel hop can be eliminated by modifying your engine mounts with some compound or getting PR motor mounts but half of this board complains about them. They get the job done if you ask me. I get barely any wheel hop.

Can't have any vibration in the Maxima. Too nice a car for that. I guess I'll save the Maxima mostly for street and run my Camaro at the track.

With about a 8-10whp/4-8wtq gain over 4000rpm cartest shows your car running 13.6s @ 101mph given a 1.9x 60'. [Capt Picard]You must make it so [/Capt Picard]. Good job man.

EDIT: I plugged your race weight into cartest and assumed that your car would be making around 189-192whp/188-195wtq. This is the simulated 1/4 I got http://www.geocities.com/nismo87se/Neal_run.JPG. You'll have to cut and paste or copy to your HD to view. How does this compare with your timeslip? Cartest when given the same weight and dyno is within 1 tenth in ET but 1-3mph high in trap.

The timeslip from my 13.999 goes as follows:

.491
1.996
5.766
8.933 @ 76.89mph
11.677
13.999 @ 97.24mph

Whereas the simulation numbers are:

---
1.99
5.81
8.99 @ 79.0mph
11.70
13.98 @ 98.48

A couple things I can think of that might contribute to my numbers being quicker but at slower speeds are:
1) your ~190 whp figure might be optimistic. I put 182 to the wheels before the VI (and before the test pipe). From what I've seen the VI doesn't gain much at all in the way of peak HP.

2) My torque is almost certainly not that high (any more). Again going by what few BEFORE and AFTER dynos I've seen of VI cars, both Dave B and speedtrip lost a significant chunk of their low end torque as opposed to the stock intake manifold, somewhere on the order of 10ft-lb off their old peaks. I put 189ft-lb to the ground with my stock manifold, JWT POP and Cattman Y, so my peak tq may be closer to ~180ft-lb now, assuming the tq loss seen by Dave B and speedtrip. Also of note, I have a pretty ugly exhaust leak somewhere, which could be affecting my low end tq a bit too.

3) Does CarTest take into account that I am on bias ply slicks rather than belted radial tires. I'm told that in general slicks will slow your trap speeds down some.

Something else that I think is cool, this weekend may have been the first side by side races of two VI-equipped 4th gens. BriguyMax and I had the opportunity to go at it 3 times on the track, and a few times out of toll booths and on the freeway. The verdict is that our cars are dead frickin even. Only thing giving me the advantage at the track is my slicks.

My other runs were:

.613
1.964
5.790
8.971 @ 76.67mph
11.724
14.042 @ 97.24mph
I hit the rev limiter in 1st on this run and didn't powershift to 2nd, otherwise this run may have be quicker than the other. BTW this run was also against Brian he ran his personal best of 14.43 @ 97.2 with a sweet 2.14 60' on some really crappy tires.

.522
2.062<----spinning the slicks
5.869
9.053 @ 76.47
11.809
14.136 @ 97.04

Nothing significant on this one other than I spun the slicks a bit, they were at like 25psi and perhaps not totally dry?

.468
1.998
5.871
9.051 @77.85 <---my fastest 1/8th trap ever
11.816
14.145 @ 98.03

I bogged a little bit on this run, so all my times after the first 60' suffered, yet my traps were great. Another run against Brian, he was right there with me about 2 car lengths back and keeping pace with me.

.826
2.054 <---spun the slicks at 25psi
5.930
9.114 @ 77.69
11.883
14.206 @ 98.38 <---fastest trap ever for me

I spun the slicks on this run as well.

BTW these runs are NOT the order in which I ran them. I had the slicks at 25psi for my first two runs, and spun them. I dropped them to 21psi and they gripped great.

To address Larry's question about wheelhop: If I hook I don't get any wheelhop because as you know to get wheelhop you have to have them spinning, which they won't be if I hook. On my two runs where I did spin the tires a bit, I got some minor wheelhop but just stayed in it as it was over with pretty quickly.

I figured it was alittle high. However when I use Cranman's dyno #s and your race weight, I have to use AWD in order to get the same 60'. But in any case here are the #s below. The numbers show that using cranman's dyno is more accurate given the same 60' and weight.
1.98
5.77
8.96 @ 78.63
11.69
13.99 @ 98.28
2) My torque is almost certainly not that high (any more). Again going by what few BEFORE and AFTER dynos I've seen of VI cars, both Dave B and speedtrip lost a significant chunk of their low end torque as opposed to the stock intake manifold, somewhere on the order of 10ft-lb off their old peaks. I used a different dyno this time and got more realistic numbers so its all good.
3) Does CarTest take into account that I am on bias ply slicks rather than belted radial tires. I'm told that in general slicks will slow your trap speeds down some.
If it does I haven't found out how, the only thing I can do is make a car AWD in order to match the 60' time. By playing with static and kinetic friction I was only able to squeeze a 2.0x 60' at best with FWD. The other dyno I used before would simulate cams + more aggressive tuning.

Yea...I was next to him on that run....and I redlighted too.....we were both trying to "tree" each other every time we ran...rather amusing...

Was that your very next run after the crash? I'm so upset I left before watching you and Bri go at it.

As soon as the darn raining stops here, I'll try my best to hit 13s...yes, wishful thinking I know.

Awesome driving! Congrats on setting a record.
Did the track officials give you crap for a sub-14 E/T without a helmet or were you already wearing one?

They didn't say anything about it....we purposely DIDN'T even bring my helmet becuase we knew if we were prepared for it...he wouldn't have broken the 14 second barrier.

truly amazing.... to some people this was just a great run, but to people me this is a whole new chapter in maxima performance. I'm sure that nissan never thought the VQ30DE would power a maxima into the 13s without help and it really goes to show the determination you've put into this paying off.

So what next? Some people say 13.8s.... I say that now you need to repeat it on street tires. The ECU may be the trick to run a 13 in full street trim.

Congrats and Good Luck

i can feel something good about our cars finally! i have the Gforce ECU in my car. i raced it in englishtown battle of the imports. man, i'm kinda impressed. my first run i had no traction (all day), ran 14.2@94. my second run, i missed 2nd gear but ran a 14.5 and trapped out at 98.5! my first round i broke out because my dial in time was 14.4 (like it usually is). i raced against a turbo neon that dialed in at 14.8. i let off the gas (i always sandbag lol got me back) a whole lot at the end and still ran a 14.36@91.38mph!!! bad luck, but what a run. double break out for us and i lost by .04. oh well. some dude in a supra won the first round but had to leave. he gave me his number and i got two free runs. this time i dialed in at 14.2 and i ran a 14.24@96.59. the third round i lost to a swapped civic who dialed 14.8. he treed me with a .547 to my .599RT. i ran 14.33@96.70mph. good times for a maxima, but the cold weather prevented my tires from sticking. i will test and tune at atco to see if my street tires have anything more to offer. perhaps i will try to compensate by doing burn outs. my launches varied from 2.1-2.3 so unless i can launch the car like i did on that hot sticky day at atco, i won't be seeing 13's in street trim. overall i'm glad that my car runs consistently quicker now. i have to dial in at 14.2 instead of 14.4 like i used to. that day i was cutting all 500 lights. good learning experience i guess. neal, why did you choose millenia rims for your slicks? are they that lightweight? also, what size are your slicks and where did you buy both?? i would like to join the 13 sec NA maxima club!

Dang nice runs. The Mazda Millenia wheels weigh 11.5lbs. So yes, they are light as heck. I'm running a 6.0/26.0-15 M&H Racemaster slick.

Congrats

Awesome Nealoc...I will hopefully be joining you on the 13's all motor 4th gen car on the 18th of October. Making a trip to Roswell. I'm glad that you were able to get it. I knew it was a matter of the weather cooling before you got it.

Yeah... Roswell, NM (closest 1/4 mile track to Albuquerque...that I'm aware of). But, I'll take all the help I can get from the UFO's...but hopefully I won't need it.

That would be cool, your welcome to come along and you could get some runs in also to see how your car fairs on the 1/4 mile track.
