waxn tha wheels
so this weekend i was waxing my car and was using some carnuba wax to shine my pearly whit up nice and purty and i decided to go ahead and wax the wheels too. they were really clean and i was happy with the result. today, i took my car to get emission tested and i looked on my mud flaps and saw some white caked on junk, which i assume is the wax. has anyone had this happen and how can i get it off?

The white goo is not wax.
I have found that using a spray wax on my wheels once or twice a week after cleaning makes them look great all the time. I also remove my wheels once every two months and put about 5 coats of Yellow Wax on them.
Now all I have to do is wipe out the insides of my wheels with a damp cloth once a weel and they look brand new all the time. There's nothing I hate more than dirty inside parts of wheels......oh and herpes sucks pretty bad too.

I Zaino my wheels everytime I do the whole car. It only takes a few extra minutes. After that, just regular carwash soap and water gets all the brake dust off.
I guess the white stuff could be wax that you didn't buff completely off the wheel. If there was some white buildup still caked on your wheels it could have flown off. But I would think the wax would remain adhered to the surface it was applied to. If it is indeed wax, you could just take a towel and wipe it off your mudflaps. If it doesn't wipe, then it's not wax.

Black goo?
Does anyone know what the hell the black goo that gets inside my wheels is and where it comes from? It'll be on the inside of the rim in thick black spots and leaves a black stain after you scrape the bulk of the goo off. It's been driving me nuts all summer. I would think its tar but the tar doesn't show up anywhere else on the car.

Good thinking, but it happens in the back too, on both sides. The stuff is usually crusty when I go to pick it off and it leaves behind the dreaded black residue. WTF?

Hard black spots that you have to chip off.
I think it is brake dust that collects with moisture??
When i wax my wheels this comes off much easier, and not as many form.
