When Car Gets Faster.... Does The Shift Points Change?

I got done installing my intake. i have had a pop charge, but now i have the intake piping part. I drive a 96' Maxima ( auto )

While driving it after re-seting the computer, a couple days later i noticed my shift points have changed

Before I got the Intake Piping, my gears were like this

1st 0-45
2nd 45-80
3rd 80- ? Never took it passed 130 much

Well, today my fist was going all the way up to 50mph
and then 2nd kicked in...is that normal. Could it be from the intake, or the colder Weather were starting to get?

Get back to me
thanks

shift points are the same unless you have it adjusted via ecu.

I thought shift points were based on RPM, not speed. So, if that's the case, and he is making more power, then it would make sense that it shifts at a higher speed because the area under the power curve is bigger

see thats what im thinking it is... every time i install a mod, Y pipe, cat back ect.. mine always changes.. and dont get me wrong i have no complants about it, it pulls harder then ever. Im just wondering if my 1st gear is 5 mph long does that mean my car can do 5 mph more then it could before the intake?

Are you saying a modification changes what RPM you are at at a certain speed?

beats me......... think about it though..... the gears can only turn so quickly as the engine rotates, no matter if you're na or boosted or what not. It's not like a remote control that says, ok gears, spin faster because i have a y pipe. It's a connected mechanism. I think it's in your head.....

Adding Horse power does not change your gearing. For example you have two maximas and there both at 5000 RPM in second gear. Maxima #1 has 200 HP and maxima # 2 has 300 HP (like me). Well both of these cars will be at the exact same speed at 5000 RPM. Making your gears different involves changing your gears.. Adding HP will not do anyhting to it. So like I told you on IM and like Darren said.. it's in your head

More HP (mods) will get you to your shiftpoints faster. Your shift point is not goin to be the same everytime you drive. If your driving like an old lady- your car will shift at low RPMs and a lower speed. Yet if you stomp the gas your car is goin to rev alot higher and and be goin alot faster.....

Thats basically it right there....you didnt mention if you were flooring it whenever your car shifted- but i just thought i'd include all that crap.....ok i've typed alot more than i thought i would- and i dont even know if it all makes sense.......

Thank you all for replying,

i have driven my car some more, and flooring it my 1st goes to 42, and then 2nd goes from 43-78 OK, well if my shift point is at 43 for 2nd gear...that means if im Rollin and drop it into 2nd gear it should be at 4 grand, witch it usually is, but ever since i got my intake when rollen at 42 and i drop it into 2nd my rpms are not at 4 like they usually are...they are at 3 and a half.... so what does that mean?

I lost some mid rang power? Or I have more of a powerband in 2nd gear?

Get back to me
Thanks
