Re: Which Is The Best Maxima Yet

hands down the best maximAr is the 1st gen. No other maxima is RWD!!! That car is easy to work on, Z parts fit with little issue. Not to mention you can do chevy/ford SBCs as well as nissan RB, SR, VG series engine swaps. Next I'd say the 3rd gen.

Try a 82-84 SE. Sure the stock motor is alittle weak but who keeps the stock engine. Especially when a chevy SBC or nissan VG30, SR20DET or RB26DETT would fit. Did I mention the RWD?
2. 1997-1999 (with the red/clear tails)
I tend to favor the 3rd gens in look, they are just sexy.
3. 4th gens
Jury is still out on that one.
4. no clue
I'd have no clue however the 1st-2nd gens have less electronics so maybe more isn't better?
5. 4th gens
1st/2nd/3rd gens take the cake. All can do relatively easier motor swaps, have the ECU reprogrammed. In all the 1st gen should be the easiest.

If you wanna have this whole best maxima yet discussion, you have to look at each car in perspective of the era it was introduced, the 'competing' cars, etc.

Based on that (and in complete non-biased honesty), the 92 SE 5spd, hands down. Just ultimately blew away the competition and put the Maxima in a whole other level.

After that...then maybe the 02 6spd (for the same basic reasons....mainly being the performance being wayy upped).

The 4th gen at the time of introduction wasnt an 'improvement' so to speak over the 3rd gen VE. Not to say it's not a good car, just at the time of inception, it wasnt THAT much better than the predecessor (alot of people didnt much like it). Nissan played it safe so to speak with the 4th gen. That's way obvious just from the styling.

You cant properly do this because most people cant get the basic principle out of their mind of 'newer being better' kinda thing. People wanna straight up compare the cars and you cant do that with there being 20 plus years gap between them. If you were to compare the 'best' Camaro's, who's to say an '00 SS is better than a '69? The '00 is obviously faster, quieter, stops better, more comfortable, etc but not necessarily better. It all has to be looked at with perspective.

the auto VEs get no love hehe but true its all about perspective, the 3rd gens were substantial back in 89-94, and still hold their own today in the face of all these new cars. I agree with the "newer-better" theory which is not always true...

ahhh 69 SS

I would say that a 97-99 SE Maxima would be the best overall, great looks, great powertrain. Maxima performance has been pretty much equal from 92-01 (except for the VG and VE autos). Improvements in the powertrain (95)put it in another level. 2nd gens were fun in the day with all of the gadgets and instrumentation that they had and they put he sportiness into Maxima, sporty seats etc in the 85-88 Se's.

This is easy.. for it's time the 85SE 5sp

We think it is rare now to have 6 cylinders and a 5speed. Well imagine how it was 17 year ago. The 2nd Gen in pewter with beige interior was awesome from it's moonroof to it's oil pressure and Voltage gauge and let's not for get the adjustable shocks and yes the annoying.........

"boop---KEYS ARE IN THE IGINITION"

"boop---LIGHTS ARE ON"

This car introduced me to the Maxima and the thrill of the 5speed. I have been loyal I have owned a 2nd...3rd...and 4th Gen gotta love it.
